Weekly Hoots
#SoaringTogether March 4 - 8
From the Desk of Dr. Gantt
We have made it to March. March is always an interesting month in education. For school around the country, March is usually the month where things get out of sorts (to say the least). It's the month that brings a little more fatigue, a little more irritability, it's the month where we are looking for Spring Break but understanding that we have a ways to go to get there. 🤪
Understanding this fact... Our school district and our school has strategically done things to help... We scheduled our Boosterthon Fun Run to kick off the month (this week 😄) to bring the month in with excitement and with something that high energy and community-building. The following week, we are kick-starting our WES Spring Clubs which will give our students an outlet and to learn and share some of their strengths and gifts. And, we have a couple early release days in there along with a teacher workday.
The goal is to keep the positive momentum going as we get closer to spring break. We want to give our students something exciting to look for every day! However, please be aware of the March doldrums just in case your child may need a little more encouragement in the morning... Know, it is completely normal.
We got this!

We are a school of READERS!
Reading with your child every day for 20 minutes OR having your child read independently every day for 20 minutes at home could earn your child an additional $1.2 million.
Did you know...
“students reading proficiently by the end of third grade are five times more successful at achieving college and career readiness as their non-proficient peers.”
And
Reading 20 minutes per day exposes children to approximately 1.8 million words a year, usually articulating in students scoring in the 90th %ile on standardized tests.
Moral: It PAYS to be a READER!
Read Across America Reading Challenge
During the month of March, students can read their favorite books and complete 5 of the activities in a row (in any direction) to receive a prize on March 29th.
We are Readers at WES!
We are investing in our students LOVE for reading by adding our very first Book Vending machine to campus!!!! Your students will have the opportunity to get books (to have forever) from our WES Book Vending machine.
Be on the lookout for more information; however, here's a proofs (below). 😁
Perseverance
Character Word of the Month
Every month WES students will learn about a character word. This month, the word of the month is Perseverance.
Perseverance is persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.
Share with your child what perseverance means to you and ask them how they have had to persevere.
