MVMS Parent Update
2/23/2024
The Academic Showcase is Just Three Weeks Away!
It takes a village to raise a child, especially middle school students. I am excited to announce several of the community partners that will be present that evening that are here to come along side you to provide support and activities geared towards your student. Below are the confirmed community partners that will be here that evening:
- BHP/Care Now Clinic
- Freedom Center
- New Directions
- Knox Public Health
- NYAP
- The Salvation Army
- MTVarts
- Triple P Parent Support Initiative
- Nationwide Children's Hospital
- Knox Substance Abuse Action Team
We have the unique opportunity to host a Hidden in Plain Site exhibit that is being put on by the Knox Substance Abuse Team. This interactive experience allows you to explore an exhibit resembling a teenager's bedroom with more than 100 items that are potential indicators of dangerous or risky behaviors. Topics covered will be substance abuse, suicide, unhealthy relationships, and more. Their official flyer for the even is below.
We look forward to seeing you on March 14th! We will continue to provide information about the events taking place over the next few weeks.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Celebrating Black History Month at MVMS
Throughout this month, we're integrating the celebration of Black History Month into our lessons. Our Social Studies department is spearheading a school-wide initiative – Black History Month door decorating. In flex classes, students are enthusiastically planning, designing, and decorating classroom doors to highlight the 2024 theme, "African Americans and the Arts." This engaging activity will continue for the rest of the month. I'm excited about the opportunity to showcase what our students have learned through their creative displays.
I encourage you to engage in conversations with your children about the importance of Black History Month. Encourage them to explore the achievements of Black figures who have played pivotal roles in shaping our world. Together, let's foster an environment where every student feels seen, heard, and appreciated.
After School Homework Help
MVMS offers after school homework help from 2:40 - 4:00 on most Tuesday and Thursdays. While we call it homework help, students are able to bring any work or assignment that they need support on from their classes and there are teachers available to offer support. The full schedule of dates the homework help is offered is below. For those that need transportation home from homework help, there is a bus that takes students to the Learning Center, East, Pleasant Street, Dan Emmett, and Columbia.
