September Weekly update ~ September 19, 2025
A note from Mr. Lee
We are off to a strong start this fall, and I want to thank you for the role you play in helping us build momentum. Each day we are seeing students settling into routines, supporting one another, and rising to the expectations of our RISE framework—being Respectful, showing Individual Accountability, staying Safe, and staying Engaged.
This week, please help us reinforce with your student, the importance of coming to class prepared, being on time, and giving their best effort. Small, consistent habits lead to big results, and together we can set the foundation for a successful school year.
We also have some exciting events coming up, including our first home volleyball game and Detroit Lions Spirit Day. These activities provide opportunities to celebrate school pride while also reminding students that privileges come with responsibility. Thank you for continuing to partner with us as we teach our Cougars not only how to succeed academically, but how to grow as leaders and teammates.
Special Remarks from Mr. Syswerda
We have our first home volleyball match on Monday, 9/22. We are trying something new this year: all students on our earned privilege list (which is almost everyone right now) may attend sporting events without a parent. If your child plans to attend this game, they will need their admission ($2) and a ride home.
Thank you for your patience in the parking lot. I sent home several communications on Wednesday but if you missed them, we are trying to use the two traffic lanes for drop off and not our "fire lane" area. The fire lane will remain open for pick up in the afternoon.
Early Release
Please read the following letter in regards to our early release policy for the 2025-2026 School Year.
6th Grade Meetings
We have an exciting new opportunity for all in-coming 6th grade students. Mrs. Bednard is in the process of hosting small groups of 6th graders in her room during lunch. These meetings will continue until all students have had a chance to participate. During these meetings, we are discussing some of the changes from elementary to middle school, and how to navigate those changes. We are completing small group activities related to the middle school transition. Mrs. Bednard also has 8th grade WEB and Leadership students at these meetings to talk to students on how to be successful at Carter Middle School. Our goal is to show 6th grade students some of the resources they have, and to alleviate some of the anxiety that some 6th grade students experience.
Parent Teacher Conferences
At Carter Middle School, Parent-Teacher Conferences are a key part of our communication strategy regarding your child's progress. Please plan on booking a parent-teacher conference with the applicable teacher(s) for each child you have attending Carter Middle School.
This round of conference we are using the Carter Middle School Conference Manager. This application allows you to check our teachers' schedules and book a conference.
Conferences will on Wednesday, October 8th and Thursday, October 9th. Please look for more information soon to schedule your conference.
