A Message from Our Pastor, Fr. Jonathan Gaspar

Dear Families,

It is my great pleasure to address you in this week's message. I want to take a moment to share about the importance of St. Patrick’s Day as well as Pastor’s Day, which we will celebrate alongside St. Patrick’s Day as a parish and school community this Monday.

St. Patrick’s Day is more than just a cultural celebration—it is a day to reflect on the faith and perseverance of St. Patrick, who devoted his life to spreading the Gospel. St. Patrick brought the light of faith to Ireland and was a learned scholar and teacher. Here in Boston, this day carries deep significance, especially for the many Irish immigrants who built their homes, families, and communities in this city. Their sacrifices and strong Catholic faith have shaped the history of Boston and the foundations of our parish. We honor their legacy by continuing to live out the faith they held so dear. St. Patrick's day is a solemnity in the Archdiocese of Boston, which means that we are invited to take a break from the fasting and penance of the Lenten season and spend a day feasting and celebrating the memory of St. Patrick.

In that same spirit, we will also be celebrating Pastor's Day on Monday. March can be a long and busy month, and this day is meant as a gift. It is a gift from me to all of our faculty, staff, and students who spend the entire year working so very hard in their work and studies. It is an opportunity to rest and rejuvenate. I hope this day offers you and your loved ones the chance to rest and celebrate with your families!

Please know that you are in my prayers, and I ask for yours as well. May this time be filled with faith, joy, and rest for all of us.

Celebrating 125 Years of St. Mary's

In honor of our 125th year of educating at St. Mary’s, we started a series on social media highlighting some of the moments from our school’s history for #throwbackthursday! Check out our recent features of St. Mary's throughout the years. This first photo, shared with us by a St. Mary’s alumnus, highlights St. Mary’s first football team in 1928!

Check out the St. Mary’s girls basketball team from 1959 and boys basketball ball teams from 1970 side by side with our 2025 teams!

As we celebrate #125yearsofstmarys it is not surprise to see that STEM education has always been a fundamental part of the St. Mary’s curriculum. Take a look at this photo from 1942 of some St. Mary’s students working on science experiment! It is amazing to see how much our STEM program has grown since then, but also to see the advanced work of these students over 80 years ago!

Next, we feature a photo from the class of 1946 showing off their St. Mary’s school spirit! As we celebrate 125 years of St. Mary’s, school spirit has been at an all time high! Here a photo of some of our current students showing their school spirit at our 2024 National Blue Ribbon School celebration!
