Wylie Elementary March Family Newsletter
Principal's Message
Dear Families,
March always feels like a month of momentum on our campus. The days are getting longer, routines are strong, and our students are showing just how much they have grown since the beginning of the year. It is truly exciting to see their confidence building in both academics and character.
As we head into the spring semester, this is an important time to stay focused and consistent. Daily attendance continues to make a tremendous difference in student success. Every school day provides valuable learning experiences, collaboration with peers, and opportunities to practice new skills. Thank you for your partnership in ensuring your child is at school, on time, and ready to learn each day.
You will also notice students engaging in rigorous lessons, goal-setting conversations, and continued practice in reading, writing, and math. Our teachers are working intentionally to support every child’s growth, and we are proud of the effort our students are putting into their learning.
March is also a time when we begin preparing for upcoming assessments and end-of-year milestones. We encourage students to do their best, stay positive, and remember that growth matters. Confidence, perseverance, and a strong work ethic are skills that will carry them far beyond this school year.
As always, thank you for your support, encouragement, and partnership. When schools and families work together, our students thrive.
We are looking forward to a strong and successful month ahead!

Spring Semester
As we enter the final stretch of the school year, this is an important time for students to stay focused and finish strong. The weeks ahead are full of exciting spring activities, special events, and opportunities to celebrate growth—but they are also some of the most critical instructional days of the year.
In the classroom, teachers are working diligently to solidify the essential reading and math skills your child needs before moving on to the next grade level. These foundational skills build confidence and prepare students for future success, so consistent attendance, daily effort, and a positive attitude make a big difference right now.
We encourage families to help students stay engaged by maintaining routines and reminding them that every day counts. Together, we can make these final months both meaningful and memorable as we celebrate all the progress made this year and set students up for a strong start next fall.
Consistent support at home can make a big difference. Here are practical, easy ways families can help our school make reading and math learning connections at home
📚 Supporting Reading at Home
1. Read every day (15–20 minutes).
Take turns reading aloud.
Let your child choose books that interest them.
Reread favorite books to build fluency.
2. Talk about what you read.
Ask questions like:
What was the main idea?
Who were the characters?
What might happen next?
Why did the character make that choice?
3. Build vocabulary naturally.
Discuss new words you see in books or hear in conversations.
Encourage your child to use new words in sentences.
4. Make reading part of daily life.
Read recipes while cooking.
Read signs, menus, or instructions together.
Listen to audiobooks in the car.
5. Create a reading-friendly space.
Keep books easily accessible.
Set a regular reading routine (before bed works well!).
➕ Supporting Math at Home
1. Practice math facts regularly.
Spend 5–10 minutes on addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division facts.
Use flashcards, apps, or quick oral practice.
2. Use math in everyday situations.
Measure ingredients while cooking.
Count change at the store.
Estimate totals before checking out.
Tell time and calculate how long activities take.
3. Play math-based games.
Board games that involve counting or money.
Card games that require addition or strategy.
Puzzles and logic games.
4. Encourage problem-solving.
Ask your child to explain how they solved a problem.
Praise effort and strategy, not just correct answers.
5. Keep a positive mindset.
Avoid saying “I was never good at math.”
Reinforce that mistakes help us learn.

Counselor's Corner
Responsibility: to take action and understand how our choices affect others, ourselves, and the world.
This month our Wylie students are learning about the importance of RESPONSIBILITY. Through guidance lessons, we will be discussing what it means to be responsible for our actions, our learning, and the choices we make daily. Through character lessons taught by the counselors in the classroom, our first-grade students will be reading the book Train Your Dragon to be Responsible by Herman. Second-grade students will learn about responsibility by reading and discussing the book, The Little Red Hen makes Pizza, retold by Sturges, and will work on a craft for the lesson. Our third-grade students will explore responsibility through a story called The Paperboy by Pinkly. We encourage you to support this learning at home by talking with your child about ways they can be responsible at home and in in the community. Also, please make sure to point out and praise your child when they are demonstrating responsibility.
