What is happening in the classroom?
Math w/ Mr. Redstone
We have completed our work in Unit 5. This unit was on Functions. Specifically students learned how to evaluate a function, determine if a graph or table represents a function and be able to compare properties of two functions represented in different ways. We will be moving on to learning about the integer exponent rules and scientific notation.
ELA w/ Mrs. Remington
We recently wrapped up The Giver by watching the movie, and it was a great way to bring the story to life. The students showed noticeable improvement on their character and theme standards compared to the previous assessment. After the break, we’ll be diving into some reader’s theater activities and exploring a few more short stories before beginning our final presentation project of the year.
We’re in the home stretch, and the students have demonstrated meaningful growth in many areas. One skill we’re continuing to focus on is citing textual evidence, and we’ll keep working on that as we finish out the year strong.
Social Studies w/ Mr. Oliver
We will be looking forward to U.S. History, post "Creating the" Constitution Era. We have spent a lot of time looking at the foundations of our Government and Country as a whole. Students will be researching topics of individual interest in the areas of Economics, Civics, and History. As we have done all year, Current Events will continue to be a topic of discussion and study, in context to the functionality of the U.S. Government.
Science w/ Ms. Cloutier
Hello everyone, we are deep in our chemistry unit! We are starting to work with ionic and covalent bonds and next we are going to begin with acids and bases. The rest of the year will have lots of hands-on activities. We will even make glue! Ask your students about it all.
Literature w/ Ms. Maurais
We are continuing our poetry unit and the students are doing a wonderful job. Before spring break, they explored free verse poetry and collaborated on a writer research project. Each group selected an influential writer or poet, researched their life and work, and created a presentation to share with the class. As we move into May, students will dive into creating blackout poems and place poems, and they will even analyze song lyrics to uncover deeper meanings.
