Dear Parents and Carers,
This week has been a truly regal week for Year 2. On Wednesday, the children stepped back in time with an exciting visit to Pontefract Castle, where they spent the day exploring the grounds and learning all about the fascinating history of the building. They were captivated by stories of kings, queens and castle life, and impressed everyone with their curiosity and excellent behaviour throughout the visit.
Back at school, the inspiration continued as the children designed and created their own castles. Using their imagination and creativity, they included towers, walls, gates and even moats. The finished models were spectacular — some families may find their homes need an extension to make room for these impressive constructions!
The Yorkshire Learning Trust Science leads spent the day in school on Wednesday, taking part in an inspiring training session led by the Ogden Trust. During the session, staff were introduced to a range of exciting new science equipment and explored practical ways to use it to enhance teaching and learning across the school. The hands-on training provided lots of fresh ideas and will help bring science lessons to life for our pupils.
As part of this work, Kestrels will soon be bringing home a science experiment to try out with their families. We would love to hear how you get on, so please do share your experiences and any discoveries made at home!
Many thanks to everyone who supported Willow (Year 5) this week with her fantastic Hedgehog Awareness drive. Through her hard work and determination, Willow raised an impressive £175.10, which will go towards supporting and protecting these much-loved animals. More importantly, she inspired a whole host of other children to get involved, think about wildlife conservation, and recognise how even small actions can make a big difference.
I’ve saved your purses by encouraging awareness rather than further fundraising — but get ready, as our pupils are clearly motivated to help save the world, one animal at a time!
Have a great weekend,
Mel Walmsley
Headteacher
