FR Haythorne Junior High students will once again be participating in the annual school Terry Fox run on Monday, September 28th.

Students will come down to the gym for a briefly assembly, sharing about who Terry was and the legacy he left, prior to starting the run.

Grade 7 - Period 4
Grade 8 - Period 3
Grade 9 - Period 2

Students can still bring in donations in the mornings. Donations can also be made on our school fundraising through the Terry Fox Foundation with the link below:

Honoring Orange Shirt Day in Strathcona County

September 30 marks Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation—a time to honour residential school survivors, remember the children who never came home, and reaffirm that Every Child Matters.

Reconciliation starts at home. Here are a few ways to recognise the day right here in Strathcona County:

Wear Orange: Wear an orange shirt on September 30 to spark conversations. Support Indigenous-owned creators when purchasing your shirt.
Join Local Events: Attend community gatherings, flag-raising ceremonies, or educational events hosted locally, including programs and resources through the Strathcona County Library.
Participate in Walks: Take part in local memorial walks or running events in the region that honour survivors and raise awareness.
Educate and Reflect: Read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action and commit to learning more about local Indigenous history.

Attendance Code Changes in PowerSchool

Starting this school year, parents will see a few new attendance codes in PowerSchool. These updates were introduced by the division to help us track and communicate student locations more accurately. For parents, this means more clarity when they receive an absence notice.

Here is a quick guide to the codes you may see:

A – Absent, Unexcused: Student is not in class, and no reason has been provided.

PA – Parent Aware: Student is absent, and the family has communicated the reason.
L – Late: Student arrived late to class without notification.
PL – Parent Aware Late: Student arrived late, but the family provided a reason (e.g., returned from a morning appointment).
X – Exited: Student was present for initial attendance but left class early without prior notice.
PX – Parent Aware Exited: Student was present for attendance but was excused early (e.g., left for an appointment).
PIB – Present in Building: Student is not in their regular classroom but is accounted for elsewhere in the school (e.g., working in the office, meeting with a staff member, or writing an exam).

Traffic Management

Parents – We Need Your Help!

We’re asking for your support in keeping the FRH Parking Lot and Drop-Off Loop a safe place for our students. Every year, we work closely with our SRO to help monitor and enforce this. Help us out by remembering the following:

Staff Parking access is not permitted during peak times. Bus and foot traffic already create congestion, and extra vehicles reduce visibility and increase risk.
Drop-off lane is right-turn only (Westbound traffic only). No U-turns or left turns. These are prohibited, and signage is posted to remind drivers. (Please note: This is a ticketable offense.)
Utilize the pump station parking lot, across the street, if you are traveling Eastbound.
Follow the crossing guard’s directions. Vehicles must not enter the crosswalk area if students or staff are present. (Please note: This is a ticketable offense.)

Thank you for doing your part to keep our students safe!

2026-27 Personal Mobile Devices at School

EIPS has outlined rules about the use of personal mobile devices for each grade level in Administrative Procedure 145: Use of Personal Mobile Devices. Processes outlined within this AP are based on direction provided by the provincial government through Ministerial Order 014/2024: Standards for the Use of Personal Mobile Devices and Social Media in Schools. This includes the use of various electronic devices, including smartwatches and Meta glasses. FRH also has a Student Handbook that provides additional details about Personal Mobile Devices for our school.

We encourage families to review our PMD plan with their child to ensure students understand where and when they can and cannot access their personal mobile devices at school.

Pay school fees online!

Wondering when and how to pay for school fees? School fee information for the 2026-27 school year will be posted on the PowerSchool Parent Portal in late September. All fees are due within 30 days of being posted. NOTE: Additional fees may be added throughout the year—for example, at the beginning of each semester, as your child takes part in various activities, or they may be adjusted by changes in selected optional courses in junior and senior high school. If you’re unable to pay your school fees, you can apply to have certain fees waived. The application deadline is Dec. 15, 2026.

For more information, visit the Fees Page on the school website. Alternatively, contact Billie Mepham, billiejean.mepham@eips.ca, at FRH at 780-467-3800.

Download these bus apps for a successful ride!

Is your child riding the bus this year? If yes, download the My Ride and Bus Status apps to stay in the know about your child’s bus stop location, route, pickup time and whether their bus is running on schedule.
