Message from Liz Message from Liz

At Carlson, we know that strong learning doesn't happen by accident. Just like a memorable meal, it is the result of bringing together the right ingredients with care, purpose, and intention. This year, our theme, The Right Ingredients Make Thinking Stronger, reflects our commitment to creating meaningful learning experiences that help every child grow as a thinker, problem solver, and learner.

The ingredients that define our Applied Learning approach are:

  • Community (how we begin)
  • Collaboration (how we grow)
  • Student Voice (how we empower)
  • Accountability (how we improve)
  • Inquiry (how we think)

These beliefs guide everything we do at Carlson. They help students ask questions, think critically, work with others, solve authentic problems, and take ownership of their learning.

Families are an important part of this recipe. When school and home work together, we create the conditions for students to thrive. We are grateful to have you as part of our Carlson family and look forward to all we will accomplish together this year.

Volunteers working in classrooms or with students must have a cleared FWISD background check.

  • The FWISD Volunteer Application and Background Check must be completed EVERY school year regardless if you have done one in the past or are a FWISD employee.
  • All parents, family members, even FWISD employees must have an approved application and cleared background check on file in order to volunteer during the school day.
  • If you show up to volunteer and an approved application is not visible in our system, you will not be able to volunteer and will be reminded to complete your volunteer application.

Please help keep our students and staff safe by adhering to these policies when entering the school building during the school day.

  • Students and staff should never be asked to open exterior doors for visitors.
  • Visitors and volunteers may NOT enter the building behind a class, staff member, or other visitor.
  • All visitors must use the call box, state their full name, and provide purpose of their visit before being granted access to the building.
  • All adults must check in through the main office before proceeding to any other location on campus.
  • An approved visitor or volunteer badge must be worn and visible at all times while on campus.
  • During lunch and cafeteria cleaning times (10:40 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.), visitors and volunteers must enter through the canopy door entrance. The cafeteria entrance will not be available during this time to ensure the safety and supervision of students.

When you leave campus please make sure to destroy your volunteer sticker before being thrown in the trash can outside so that it is not reusable for someone else to take and use.

Arrival/Dismissal Reminders Arrival/Dismissal Reminders

  • The expectation is that students are in class and ready to learn at 7:45 a.m., not entering the building at 7:45 a.m.

Parking Lot

  • Students should never be dropped off in the back without an adult escorting them to the cafeteria or canopy door. Please use the car line out front if you do not plan to park and walk your child to the building.
  • Please do not park in auction spots, including the staff and parent-designated spaces painted in purple with signs.
  • Please do not park in the delivery zone in front of the cafeteria. This is not a parking spot.

Families picking up 5th graders should enter the car line by traveling down Stadium Drive. If you're at the front of the line, please pull all the way forward to the loading/unloading sign near the OLE. Keep the line moving down once it starts, closing gaps between vehicles.

  • Adults must remain in their vehicles during pick-up; do not exit to pick up children from teachers. If you need to pick up your child in person, please park and walk to the front of the building

Car Line Etiquette Car Line Etiquette

Please follow these reminders to keep our car lines moving and our students safe.

  • Make sure to keep your Car Tag with your student's name visible for staff.
  • Pull all the way forward so there are no gaps in the car line.
  • Do Not cut the line or try to pick your spot in line - pull all the way forward to the starting point or the car in front of you.
  • K-4 car line on Cantey starts at the telephone pole.
  • 5th grade car line on Stadium starts about 2-3 car lengths before the stop sign at Stadium and McPherson by the OLE.
