Holy Rosary School Derby
NEWSLETTER / TERM 2/ Week 10/ Friday 4th July 2025
Message From Miss Melanie
What a FABULOUS last week of term we have had at Holy Rosary. A huge thank you to Miss Lesley, Miss Brooke, Miss Collette, Miss Caroline, Miss Judith and Miss Bree for their great organisation of our NAIDOC Week, and to the remaining staff for supporting all the activities throughout the week. Check out some of the pictures of the activities below and on our Facebook page.
Also a BIG thank you to all of our families for continuing to support the great opportunities and learning happening in each of our classrooms as our whole school attendance is remaining at approximately 80%. Our staff put in a considerable effort to provide engaging and child focused learning experiences and through your child attending consistently they also feel valued in the work that they do, plus they also get to see the individual growth of your child. We look forward to continuing this amazing attendance achievement next term.
Families please put AUGUST 17th into your calendar as there will be a Mass at the Bungarun cemetery at 10.00am. Further details to follow closer to the date. Bishop Tim will be officiating with Fr Steve and people from Broome will also be joining our community. There will also be a morning tea afterwards.
We wish all our families a safe and relaxing holiday and we will see all our students on TUESDAY 22nd JULY, when school commences for Term 3.
God Bless.
Miss Melanie

Moving to a Three Week Mid-Year School Holiday from 2027
Catholic Education WA (CEWA) has announced it intends to implement a three-week mid-year break across its 150 schools from the 2027 academic year. The implementation of this initiative will not only bring our school in line with practices at other Independent Catholic Schools but is based on significant research into how the change will positively impact teaching, learning, and wellbeing.
I want to stress that there won’t be any changes to the hours of instruction your child receives as a result of this initiative, however small adjustments to individual term calendars and school timetables may be required.
As CEWA prepares to implement this initiative, they are welcoming feedback from our students, parents, staff, and community members. I encourage you to submit any feedback you may have via this form.
St Bede's College Visit
St Bede's College students returned in 2025 for their Broome-Derby Immersion Tour. They have spent the past week helping in classrooms and completing some community service around the school grounds which included mulching the garden behind Kindy/PP classrooms and tidying up the senior playground. The students also ran a games afternoon on Wednesday for all students from years two to six. Our students were also very lucky and each were provided with a small gift from St Bede's College on the last day of their tour. We look forward to another group of students joining our community in 2026 and thank the staff who generously gave their time to support the students in their travel to the Kimberley.
Merit Certificates
Our merit certificate students for Week 9 are:
PP = Mahana
PP = Jordyn
Year 1 = Alvia
Year 1 = Charli-Rose
Year 1 - Gabriel
Year 2/3 = Ethan
Year 2/3 = Hannah
Year 3/4 = James
Year 3/4 = Sonny
Year 5/6 = Aaron
Congratulations to all our hard workers.
Also a huge congratulations to all of our Attendance certificate winners. Students who have maintained an attendance average of 90% or above were awarded a certificate - we had a total of 44 students recognised on the day. Keep up the great effort everyone.
School Jumpers Now Available
We have new stock of royal blue zip up jumpers in the office. We have a limited range of sizes so get in quick to secure your child's size before more cold weather kicks in. Jumpers are available from the Admin for $18 each.
Shoes at School
School holiday shoe shopping - A reminder to families that crocs and thongs are not appropriate footwear for students from Year 1 - 6. All students from Year 1 - 6 are required to wear shoes each day or they will not be permitted to play. We understand that it can be difficult to get new shoes in town but request that families minimise the wearing of the wrong shoes to school. We thank you for your support.
Medical Action Plans 2025
Please ensure that the school is supplied with a current medical action plan for your child, if they need one. Parents are required to provide the school with a new plan if that changes throughout the year.
Health Care Card Discount 2025
It is essential for Health Care Card holders to complete the necessary form immediately to be eligible for the school fee discount. Please come into the Admin to provide details at the start of the new school year.
All Health care Cards MUST be current so if yours has expired please come in and provide the updated details to Miss Jenna in Admin.
