You'll notice something new around Centennial this year! We are introducing R.O.A.R. as our school-wide behavior expectations. R.O.A.R. gives our students four clear expectations for how we show up, treat one another, and contribute to a safe and positive learning environment:

R - Ready to Learn

O - Own Your Actions

A - Act Safely

R - Respect Our Community

We will be teaching and practicing these expectations with students throughout the year so that everyone understands what R.O.A.R. looks and sounds like in different areas of our school. We are also replacing Cub Coupons with R.O.A.R. Tickets. Just like before, students can be recognized for demonstrating our school-wide expectations and making positive choices. We are excited to see our Cubs R.O.A.R.!

Have you heard of R.O.A.R. tickets?

Students can earn R.O.A.R. tickets by following R.O.A.R. Expectations. Any adult in the building can hand them out, and each Friday we draw winners from every classroom. Ask your child if they’ve received a R.O.A.R.ticket lately—it’s a fun way to stay connected with what’s happening at school!

School-Wide Prizes

We have filled our jar to our 1/3 mark! Great job, Cubs! We will be having our first school-wide reward next week. More details to come on what the reward will be. Keep up the great work!

Support at Home

You can help support R.O.A.R. tickets at home by talking with your child about R.O.A.R. Expectations. Ask them how they followed R.O.A.R. expectations at school and celebrate their efforts. Encouraging these positive habits at home helps your child (and our whole school!) earn more R.O.A.R. tickets together.

October Challenge

Reduce minor write-ups for disruptive behavior by 35% by November 1. We are going to focus on R: Respect Our Community this month. Teachers will be focusing heavily on reteaching that expectation in class. All staff members will be on the lookout to give students ROAR tickets for showing respect to our community! Ask your student how they can respect their school community this month!

🎄 Holiday Support at Centennial Elementary

If your family may need support this holiday season, please reach out to me. November 6th is the deadline to request assistance. Applying by this date gives me the most time possible to connect your family with available community resources.

Because resources are extremely limited this year, we kindly ask that only families experiencing extreme financial hardship apply for holiday support. Please understand that submitting a request does not guarantee that we will be able to match your family with a sponsor or provide assistance.

If your family is in a position to provide a gift or support a family in need, we would be incredibly grateful for your help! Your generosity can make a meaningful difference for a Centennial family during the holiday season.

If you would like to submit a request for holiday support or provide support for a student this holiday season email me at: savila@bethelsd.org

Weekend Food Program:

Please complete the following digital form if your family is experiencing significant financial hardship and needs assistance with weekend food.

Please understand that completing this form does not guarantee that your family will receive assistance. Each year, supplies and available resources are extremely limited, and we may not be able to fulfill every request. Centennial Elementary, and the Bethel School District, are not responsible for any food illness or allergen your student might encounter in the food bag.

If you have additional questions email Sarah Avila at savila@bethelsd.org

Community Resources

If your family is in need of community resources please visit BSD Community & Crisis Resources. If you need assistance with contacting any of these resources please let me know.

Did you know the district has its own resource center for families?

The center hosts parenting classes, offers basic need support, financial assistance, hosts community events and offers a community diaper bank. The family center team supports more than 1,000 community members and has provided thousands of dollars in financial assistance for rental, mortgage and utility assistance to local families in need.

It’s an exciting time for the Family Center. They’re reopening this fall after an extensive remodel. Want to learn more? Stop by the Family Center or give them a call at 253-800-6850 or 253-800-6862.

Tip of the Week

For the safety of our students, please do not pass cars on the left in the car loop unless directed by a staff member to do so. Students sometimes exit from the left side of vehicles, and passing creates a dangerous situation. In addition, two lanes of traffic make it difficult for staff to direct cars and allow buses to enter safely. We appreciate your patience!

Please make sure to label your child’s clothing with their name so items can be returned quickly. Encourage your child to check the Lost and Found regularly for anything they may have misplaced. Parents are also welcome to look through it when visiting the building. Please note: all unclaimed items will be donated at the end of each month.

Personal Electronic Device Policy Personal Electronic Device Policy

Personal Electronic Devices (PEDs) are NOT allowed to be used during school hours.

• The purpose of having a cell phone at school is for the student and/or guardian to get ahold of each other before or after school.

• PED use is a disruption to the learning environment and are not allowed during school hours. If the student needs to call home, they need to ask an adult to use the phone in the main office.

• If a PED is used, it is subject to progressive discipline:

First, the student will be asked to put it away and not take it out again. A minor write up will happen and guardians will be contacted.

Second, the PED will be held in the front office for the remainder of the day, and the student will get it back at the end of the day. A minor write up will happen and guardians will be contacted.

Third (and any subsequent time), the PED will be held in the office until a guardian can pick it up from the school. A minor write up will happen and guardians will be contacted.

**Students with medical conditions requiring a cell phone have individualized plans**

Your child may be entitled to participate in the Bethel School District Native American Education Program. For each child who is registered on a 506 Eligibility Certification Form, the district receives Federal Title VI funds to pay for academic assistance for Native American children. In order to be counted as part of this program, a 506 form must be filled out by a parent/guardian of the Native American child. When filling out the form, all parts must be completed. It is not required that a student be enrolled in a tribe if the parents or grandparents are registered.

This 506 Form needs to be filled out only one time as long as your child attends Bethel schools. We will keep all information confidential. Forms are available via the link below, on the Title VI website or by calling Rachael Barger at 253-800-2394 or Grace Leatham at 253-800-2393.

Earthquake highlights importance of school drills

The recent 4.2 magnitude earthquake on the Kitsap Peninsula was a quiet reminder of why safety is job one here in Bethel. While most of us in the district didn’t feel a thing, the event was a good reminder of why we train our students and staff for the unexpected long before an emergency happens. Just as fire drills trained earlier generations to react without hesitation, today’s routine safety practice ensures our kids learn how to handle modern emergency situations. Earthquake drills are one of the many we practice, alongside fire and lockdown drills, so that responding calmly becomes natural. https://www.bethelsd.org/resources/news-article/~board/headlines/post/earthquake-highlights-importance-of-school-drills

Community support strengthens district athletic programs

From Art Crate Field to the bright lights of college stadiums and beyond, our student-athletes are finding that athletics provides opportunities that stretch far beyond the scoreboard. Student-athletes gain essential life skills, including time management, teamwork, and resilience. For sports without dedicated home facilities, like swimming, bowling, and golf, athletes demonstrate discipline by traveling late into the evening for practices and meets. All this helps our young athletes build a foundation for long-term success.

Cookie Grandma’s sweet tradition keeps Cedarcrest connected

Wednesdays at Cedarcrest Middle School come with a special kind of warmth, courtesy of a beloved community member known fondly across the building as “Cookie Grandma.” Every single week, Joyce bakes and delivers homemade cookies for the school staff. Her weekly visits are a tradition, extending to the elementary and high schools her grandchildren have attended over the years. https://www.bethelsd.org/resources/news-article/~board/headlines/post/cookie-grandmas-sweet-tradition-keeps-cedarcrest-connected
