Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 22nd May 2026
Congratulations Sharks!
Sports Day
Yesterday’s Sports Day was a fantastic success and a wonderful celebration of teamwork, determination and school spirit. The day began with our EYFS pupils taking part in a range of exciting races, including obstacle races and the ever-popular ‘potato and spoon’ race! The children showed great enthusiasm and confidence as they cheered one another on, with lots of cheering from families and staff.
In the afternoon, KS1 and KS2 pupils took part in a carousel of sporting activities, collecting points for their teams as they moved around the different stations. Activities included sprint races, hurdles, bean bag throwing, football dribbling, and netball shooting skills, giving everyone the opportunity to demonstrate teamwork, perseverance and talent. A particular highlight of the afternoon was the Year 6 mile race, where pupils showed incredible resilience and determination. After a brilliant display of competition and also camaraderie, Arlo and Max were crowned joint champions in the boys’ race, crossing the line together, with Primrose being awarded first prize in the girls’ race.
After an exciting KS2 relay race brought the day to a thrilling finish, the points were carefully added together. Congratulations went to the Sharks, who were crowned the overall winners of this year’s Sports Day. Well done to all pupils for their excellent participation, positive attitudes and fantastic support for one another throughout the day. Thank you to all our families who attended the event and cheered the children on!
A small selection of photos can be seen below. More will be made available as a slideshow or on the website next half term. Thank you to parents for not photographing or filming on the day.

Duck Race
Our annual Duck Race took place at the river this week, and was a great success! Organised by the Friends, a great number of families gathered to watch the ducks race downstream. A huge well done to all those who got stuck in to help the ducks along the river and collect them at the finish line! Congratulations to our top three finishers:
1st Place: Edie in Y1
2nd Place: Penelope in Nursery
3rd Place: Barnaby in Reception
Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the event by buying ducks. The money raised through Friends fundraising will go towards our exciting library renovation project, helping to create an even more welcoming and inspiring reading space for our pupils.
Well done to this week's stars.
Nursery – Jacob, for showing great perseverance during the potato and spoon race during the EYFS sports day.
Reception – Ronnie, for sharing his amazing knowledge of animal facts. He has also written some lovely independent sentences about Sir David Attenborough.
Year 1 – Sidney, for the fantastic amount of compliments he has received from teachers this week for being a super role model in Year One. He has shown excellent sitting and brilliant participation every day.
Year 2 – Harry, for showing excellent sportsmanship during sports day, cheering everyone on and encouraging all children even those not in his house!
Year 3 – Jarred, for coming into school with a smile on his face and ready to learn. It is great to see him happy and confident in class.
Year 4 – Elliott P, for his excellent 'can do' approach to sports day, showing fantastic sportsmanship.
Year 5 – Grace E-S, for showing amazing determination, courage and resilience at sports day. Even with an injury, she pushed herself. In addition, she has also shown very impressive rainforest knowledge!
Year 6 - Jacob, for having the confidence to stand up in front of the class for auditions. He was great!
Educational Visits Meeting
Apologies for the incorrect message on ClassDojo on Tuesday (which was probably deleted before most parents had the chance to read it!). The information below which was published in last week's Update is correct. Parents of Year 3 are invited to the meeting so they get an insight into the residential visits their children will be going on in Years 5 and 6. Parents of Year 4 are invited as their children will be going to Lindisfarne in September. Parents of children in Year 5 will have a more specific meeting about the November London visit in the new school year.
Parent Meeting Wednesday 3rd June 5pm
We would like to invite all parents and carers of pupils currently in Year 3 and Year 4 to a meeting regarding the Year 5 and 6 residential visits. The meeting will take place on Wednesday 3rd June at 5pm and will outline key information about the Year 5 residential visit to Lindisfarne which will take place 23rd-25th September 2026 and the Year 6 residential to London, which has been booked for 18th-20th November 2026. There will be the opportunity to find out more about what each visit entails and to ask any questions you may have.
Reminder: Before School Arrangements
Please remember that pupils remain the responsibility of parents and carers until they are handed over to class teachers at 8.45am. Children should not be left unsupervised on the playground before this time.
The exception to this is for Year 5 and Year 6 pupils who walk to school independently. However, if behaviour before school is not acceptable, parents and carers will be contacted and will be expected to supervise their children before school in future.
We also ask that children do not play with school equipment or bring footballs and other balls to use before school, as there are no staff first aiders on duty at this time.
Thank you for your support in helping us keep all children safe before the school day begins.
