Dear HES Caregivers,
This week, our school community experienced a profound loss with the passing of beloved second grade teacher, Pat Smith. Pat was not only a dedicated educator, but also a cherished member of our school family whose warmth, kindness, and steady presence touched so many lives.
While this news has brought great sadness, we’ve also witnessed an extraordinary outpouring of compassion and resilience, especially from our students. Their empathy, thoughtfulness, and care for one another have been truly moving. It’s a reminder of the strength and heart that lives within this school.
We are deeply grateful for the kind words, support, and expressions of sympathy that so many of you have shared with our staff and one another. It has meant more than we can say.
As we head into the weekend, I hope you find moments of peace, connection, and comfort with those around you.
With heartfelt appreciation,
Christie
Socks for Field Day
Field Day is just around the corner, and we need your help to make it extra fun and memorable for our students!
This year, we’re asking for sock donations to use in some of our Field Day games and activities. Socks can be new or used—as long as they’re clean. And yes, even those lonely, unmatched socks hiding in the back of your drawer can finally have their moment to shine!
Let’s give new life and purpose to those solo socks that have been waiting for their time to shine. Every donation helps, and our students will love the creative and silly games we have planned!
Donations can be sent in with students and dropped off in the collection box outside the gym, managed by Coach D.
Thank you for your support and for helping make Field Day a blast!

Call the Attendance Line If Your Shark Is Absent
Per the handbook, if your child is unable to attend school, please enter the absence in PickUp Patrol and/or call our designated attendance line, 617-848-0115, as early as possible. Soon after arrival, our office staff begins to call the caregivers of absent students if we haven't already heard from them. This is important, as we want to ensure that all students are safe. Your phone message with the reason for the absence is all we need. While an email to the teacher is helpful, it sometimes doesn't make its way to the office staff. Thank you for your help!
Reminder: Complete parent/caregiver engagement survey!
Many thanks to those who have already completed the MRSD parent/caregiver engagement survey! This brief anonymous survey will be used to assist us with future planning for parental involvement activities and events. If you haven't yet shared your feedback, we encourage you to do so before the survey closes June 1, 2025.
