Message to Parents and Guardians

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are writing to make you aware of some minor technological issues we have been experiencing with our front door camera system. From time to time, there may be a slight delay when ringing the front door bell or waiting to be checked in at the main entrance.

Please know that our technology team is working to resolve these sporadic delays as quickly as possible. The safety and security of our students and staff remain our highest priority, and we are taking every step to ensure our entry protocols continue to operate smoothly.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through these technical hiccups.

Best regards,

Scullen Middle School

Power of Choice PSA

Hello parents! Power of Choice would like to share our first parent PSA of the year! These bi-monthly messages are part of our middle school parent campaign aimed at preventing underage drinking.

This month, we want to share some encouraging news! According to the 2026 Illinois Youth Survey, 97% of local D203 and D204 8th grade students reported being alcohol-free in the past 30 days.

With a simple conversation with your 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student, you can share this stat and encourage them that the majority of their peers engage in healthy choices instead of turning to alcohol use.

For more conversation tips and resources on how to talk to your teen about underage drinking, follow us on Instagram at powerofchoice_360 or on Facebook at The Power of Choice Parents Use Your Power.

Attendance Updates

On August 11, District 204 staff updated the School Board about several changes to Student Attendance Procedures for the 2026-27 school year. Over the next few weeks, we will highlight information that all district families need to know.

What’s New with ParentVUE?

Previously, parents were unable to select a partial-day absence in ParentVUE, as all reported absences defaulted to an all-day status.

Now, reporting partial-day absences—such as for a medical appointment—is quick and easy:

Arrive Late / Leave Early: Select these options to report a partial-day absence for any student.
Classes (Middle & High School): Specify the exact class period(s) your student will miss.

Did You Know?

Every day makes a difference!

Boosts Graduation Rates: Students who attend school regularly are 2.5 times more likely to graduate from high school, opening doors to college and career opportunities.
Improves Academic Performance: Regular attendance is directly linked to higher grades and improved test scores across all subjects. A remarkable 64% of students with consistent attendance in kindergarten and first grade are reading at grade level by the end of third grade.

2026-2027 Yearbook

Letter from the Health Office

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Indian Prairie School District follows the mandates of the Illinois Department of Public Health with regard to required Immunizations and Health Exams for our students.

Students entering sixth grade and new students to the district, must present proof of the required State of Illinois physical examination and immunizations. The student history portion of the examination form must be completed and signed by the parent.
If this is not completed, the student will be excluded from school on October 15, 2026.
Out-of-state physical examinations written on approved forms, which meet current state of Illinois requirements, are acceptable if they are less than one year old.
An out-of-state transfer student may, at the time of registration, provide an appointment card showing these requirements will be completed within thirty days. At the end of the thirty-day period, if the completed forms have not been presented to health services, the student will be excluded from school.
A vision examination is required of all students entering or enrolling in an Illinois public school for the first time. All students entering grades six through twelve must show proof of receiving the meningococcal conjugate vaccine.
The DuPage (630-682-7400) and Will (815-727-8480) County Health Departments offer immunizations at their clinics for a nominal fee. Please contact them directly to schedule an appointment.

If a physical, dental, or vision exam is needed, check with your health care provider to see if he/she has the mandated Illinois form. If he/she does not have the Illinois form, it will be available at www.ipsd.org.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences will take place on Thursday, October 22nd, from 4:30-8:00 PM and on Monday, November 2nd, from 8:00AM-3:00PM and 4:30-8:00PM. October 22nd will be a day of student attendance, however, November 2nd will not be a day of student attendance due to a full-day of conferences.

Parent-teacher communication is an important element in fostering student success, and conferences are one way to open lines of communication. Scullen’s fall conferences will be offered for core teams and individual encore teachers. In the core team conferences, all of your child’s core teachers will be present for the scheduled conference.

Conference scheduling begins on October 6th at 6am. To schedule your conference, log in to ParentVUE at the designated grade level time and select “Conference” from the menu on the left side to see the times available. Once you have scheduled your conference, you can click “Email Schedule” to have the details emailed to you. You can also go back to ParentVUE at any time to view the information, or cancel appointments in the event that you are no longer available to meet with the team or encore teacher. Scheduling will remain open until 6pm on October 13th. Watch this short video to see a step-by-step guide for scheduling your conference.

CORE Team Conferences will be scheduled through your child’s SCIENCE teacher so if you would like to meet with your child’s core teachers, please select your child’s Science teacher. Below is a list of the team Science teachers for your reference.

6-0 - Ann Ketcherside (Abrell, McCoy, Malone)
6-1 - Clayton Watkins (Rao, Dellinger, Balzer/Flowers)
6-2 - Tara Stasiewicz (Lindstrom, Swann, Georgias)
7-0 - Aaron Mueller (Low, Smith, Faivre)
7-1 - Lisa Berube (Fattes, Jones, Kuffel)
7-2 - Anthony Gladstone (Zenkel, Line, Okrzesik)
8-0 - Dan Sandine (Parker,Cozzi, Altott)
8-1 - Sara Boehnke (Czop/Hawkins, Newsome, Fredericks)
8-2 - Laura Shum (Krauz, Scheid, Bush)

In addition to the core team conference, parents can schedule a meeting with their child’s ENCORE teachers. Parents will see your student’s encore teachers listed as an option to sign up for a conference. If you would like to see Encore staff, you will be directed to schedule with your child’s 1st quarter, 1st semester, or year long Encore teachers.
Conferences will be 15 minutes in length. Please only select one time slot. If you select more than one, a teacher will release one of the time slots.

Conferences are not mandatory in middle school, and conference spots are limited. If you are not able to secure a conference time, please remember our staff is available via email or phone to address any questions or concerns.

Everyday Need To Know

ITEM & LUNCH DROP OFF CHANGES:

Effective Monday, August 17 we will no longer be allowing items to be dropped off once the school day has started. Over the past several years, the volume of items, including chromebooks and lunches, that are being dropped off on a daily basis has exceeded our capacity to ensure that students get these items in a timely fashion. Additionally, the number of classroom disruptions due to trying to get students these items has negatively impacted instruction. Therefore, we will only be accepting items that are of a medical nature (glasses, prescriptions, etc.) which should be dropped off in the main office. Please note that this change is being implemented at all Indian Prairie middle schools. This decision protects valuable instructional time while encouraging students to build essential executive functioning skills and personal accountability as they prepare for high school. We appreciate your support and understanding in this change of practice.

Always remember, that if a student forgets to pack a lunch, they have the ability to purchase a lunch from school even if they do not have money loaded onto their pushcoin.

EARLY DISMISSALS:

Need to pick up your student for a mid-day appointment or leave a little early? To help you and your student get on your way, quick and easy, please follow the procedure below:

Ealy Dismissal cut off time is 2:45pm for the safety and security of all students.

1. Send a note with your student, have them bring it to the office upon arrival, include:

Student Name and SIS Number
Time of Pick Up
Reason for Dismissal
Parent Name and Parent Signature

2. Students will be provided with a pass to leave class at the scheduled time.

3. Students are required to sign out in the office before being dismissed.

4. Come to Door 1 and ring the bell. Photo ID will be required for all student pick ups.

Too late to send a note? No need to call, we will assist you once you arrive at school.

Our Procedure is below:

Ealy Dismissal cut off time is 2:45pm for the safety and security of all students.

1. Parents/ Guardians or Emergency contacts are required to come to Door #1 and show ID when requesting a student for pick up. Please allow time for us to look up your student and verify the ID matches the information.

2. We will locate student(s) and call them down for dismissal. Due to your student's location, this process can take 5-10 minutes, sometimes more. However, we do our absolute best to efficiently get your student to the office. Often students need to stop at their locker before leaving, this can add extra wait time.

3. Students are required to sign out in the office before being dismissed.

ALL dismissals, whether spontaneous, preplanned with a note or submitted via ParentVue require an ID check. IDs must match information on Synergy under Parent/ Guardian or Emergency Contact. Emergency Contacts can be updated by Parent/ Guardians through ParentVue if needed.

*Please note the following:

Early Dismissal requests will not be taken through email or the attendance line - Physical Notes handed to the office ONLY.
Requests submitted through ParentVue will follow our regular dismissal procedure outlined above as we are not able to get passes to students who do not bring a physical note. We also cannot call students down from class until we verify ID from parent/ guardian or emergency contact, even if it was submitted on ParentVue.
Early Dismissals should not be coordinated through phones and/ or other electronic devices to students in lieu of sending a note. Policies and procedures must be followed (listed above).
Sick students are required to go to the Health Office. If your student is ill and needs to be picked up, you will receive communication from the Health Office to facilitate the dismissal.
Early Dismissals will not be possible after 2:45pm for safety and security. Please plan accordingly.

REPORTING ABSENCES/LATE ARRIVALS:

Absences can only be reported through ParentVue or the attendance line at (630) 428-7002. Teachers and staff are unable to record absences through email.

Please check the handbook for more information on Excused vs. Unexcused absences.

DR notes are strongly encouraged for excused absences.

NEW: There is an automated system that will reach out to parent/ guardians if student(s) have not been reported absent after 1-2 hours.

SCHOOL/BUILDING HOURS:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday - Doors open at 7:40am - School begins at 8:00am

Wednesday - Doors open at 8:00am (Buses adjusted 20 minutes) - School begins at 8:20am
