School Calendar Survey Now Available in myDSD
The Davis School District is seeking feedback from students, parents, and employees as it considers future school calendar options. A short School Calendar Survey is now available through myDSD.
The survey asks for input on topics such as school start and end dates, the length and timing of school breaks, spring break scheduling, and the end of first semester. Some questions include calendar trade-offs, allowing participants to share which options they would prefer if changes were made.
The survey is anonymous, and there are no right or wrong answers. Responses will help district leaders better understand the preferences of our school community as they develop future calendars.
Students can access the survey by logging into myDSD and selecting the Surveys Available icon on their home screen. Parents can also log in to myDSD to participate.
The survey takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. We encourage all students and families to share their input and help shape future school calendars in Davis School District.

🎨 PTA Reflections: Let Your Creativity Shine!
Do you love to draw or dance? To write or record music? To photograph or film-make? Then get busy because the PTA Reflections competition is now live!
Reflections is a fantastic opportunity for you to submit your original creative work for the joy of winning an award, getting a fun prize, and the chance to move on and compete at higher levels. Nearly everyone who enters in high school moves on to the region or district level-- and this kind of thing looks amazing on college, scholarship, or Sterling Scholar applications!
This year's theme is "What My Culture Means To Me." Don't be intimidated-- your culture could be your ethnicity, but it could also be something on a smaller scale like your family or your soccer team. What does it mean to you to be part of that group? How has the group influenced your life? What would you like to celebrate about your culture? Jot down some ideas, then let your creativity flow! Make a sculpture or write a poem or compose a song; whatever you're excited about is what we want to see!
If you have any questions, search Utah PTA Reflections or email Laurie Larsen at lklarsen1212@gmail.com
Entries can be submitted at https://www.utahpta.org/ref and are due October 19, 2026.

- Or do both!
Every membership and donation helps PTSA continue its work in support of Davis High students and teachers.

National Merit Semifinalists
Congratulations to Ethan Arnold and Flint Nielsen on their selection as National Merit Semifinalists! Their recognition reflects exceptional academic ability and the potential for success in rigorous college studies. Ethan and Flint earned this distinction after participating in the 2025 PSAT/NMSQT, which included more than 1.2 million students from approximately 20,000 high schools. They will now complete the next phase of the competition, which considers academic performance, school and community involvement, leadership, honors, and other accomplishments. SHARP Survey
Between October 1–30, Davis High School will administer the Student Health and Risk Prevention (SHARP) Survey to students in grades10 and 12. SHARP has given us insight into what our students are facing for more than 20 years, helping parents know what to talk about with their kids and helping schools, health departments, and community partners better support students.
Only students whose parents gave consent earlier this year, during the registration processes, will take part. Participation is voluntary, students may skip questions or stop at any time without penalty. All responses are anonymous and confidential. Questions? Contact DHS Administrator Stacey Jackson, or visit the district's Assessment & Surveys page. For SHARP FAQs and statewide results, visit sumh.utah.gov/data-reports/sharp-survey.
Excusing an Absence
Absences may be excused no more than five calendar days after the student's return to school. Absences may be excused by a guardian in the myDSD app or by calling our attendance office. Once the deadline has passed, the absence will remain classified as an unexcused absence.
Did You Know? You don’t have to call the school to excuse your student’s absence anymore. Just log in, tap Attendance, select Excuse Absence, choose the date and reason and hit Submit. No voicemails. No hold music. Just easy! Now that’s peace of mind. Here's how! Did you know you get to choose how you're notified when your student is marked absent? Whether you prefer a text message, a voice call or an email for your records, you can select one, two, or all three. Just log in to your myDSD account, go to Settings, then Notification Preferences. Check the boxes for the alerts you want — and update them anytime. Here's how!
DHS School Dance Eligibility
Beginning this year, students must be free of any outstanding U citizenship grades from the term immediately preceding a school dance in order to purchase a ticket.
Winter Dance is in second term. Eligibility for the Winter Dance on December 5 will be based on first term citizenship grades from the current school year. Students with a U from first term must complete the approved U remediation process before ticket sales begin in order to be eligible to attend.
Please contact the Citizenship Secretary with questions regarding U remediation options.
Nominate a Beehive Hero
KSL Sports and Beehive Meals need your help! Behind every thriving student is someone who makes a difference in their life each day. The Beehive Meals Hero program celebrates those individuals who go the extra mile for the youth in their community - coaches, parents or neighbor that provides the transportation, snacks, clean gear, instruction and support for activities ranging from football to rodeo, ballet to cheer, track or band.
We would love your help identifying these deserving Beehive Meals Heroes. Winners receive a $250 gift card to Beehive Meals. There’s no cost to participate, just a couple minutes of your time. MLK Speech Contest
Calling all student speakers! Students in grades 7-12 have the opportunity to participate in the 2026 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Speech Contest.
Contest Requirements:
- Memorize a 1-3 minute excerpt from one Dr. King speech.
- Prepare an introduction that includes your name, school, grade, speech title, and how the speech applies to your daily life.
- Provide judges with a printed English copy of the selected excerpt.
- Speeches may also be presented in a language other than English with advance coordination.
Our school may select one winner in grades 7-9 and one winner in grades 10-12 to advance to district judging on November 16 and 17. District winners can earn $100 for first place, $75 for second place, or $50 for third place.
School Bus Drivers and Assistants Needed
The district is actively hiring school bus drivers and assistants. With more than 21,000 students transported each day, approximately 170 routes, and about 150 contract drivers, there are not currently enough drivers to cover every assigned route without adjustments.
This staffing shortage is the reason some families experience “double backs,” in which a driver must complete one portion of a route before returning to transport another group of students. Transportation staff continue to advertise, train, and hire, but additional applicants are needed.
Please help us spread the word. A rewarding opportunity to support students and schools may be waiting for you or someone you know!
