From Superintendent Tydlacka
Dear Bold Community,
We planned for a late start this year in anticipation of construction delays. Little did we know that the one week delay would do little to mitigate the multi-month delay on the kitchen and cafeteria. In any case, we are happy to have our students back in our building, and we look forward to learning and growing with them this year.
Fortunately, with determination and fortitude, we were able to secure a portable kitchen from Nexus, with electrical infrastructure set up by the City of Olivia. The portable kitchen is here and has been set up for use on the North side of the building. Despite some major issues resulting in the early out last Tuesday, the kitchen is now good to go. We are working on back up plans in case we have issues down the road.
As we look ahead, many positive things are on the horizon for BOLD. Construction will end, and we will have a vastly improved school for students to safely learn and feel proud to be BOLD students.
Thank you for your patience, loyalty, and support as we continue to chart our way through the myriad waves of “unforeseen issues.” Once the last nail is pounded, the last stroke of paint is brushed, and the last sweaty forehead is wiped clean with a faint “uffdah,” echoing back through countless days of toil, we will have completed our long, stormy voyage on this sea of ambiguity, and we will be savoring smooth sailing toward a new, BOLD horizon.
Tim

BOLD PK-6 News
Hello BOLD Families,
As I look ahead to this school year, there is so much to look forward to! We have a lot of learning to do, but we also have a lot of fun, growing, and connecting to do along the way.
I want our families to know about some of the work that has been happening behind the scenes. Our teachers and staff have put a lot of time and energy into preparing for this school year. This summer, our elementary staff spent time learning and practicing strategies from Responsive Classroom, with a focus on building strong relationships, creating positive classroom communities, and helping students feel safe, known, and ready to learn.
We want every student to know that they belong here, that they are valued, and that there are adults in this building who care about them. The academic learning is important, but so is helping our students learn how to be kind, solve problems, work together, and care for one another.
There will certainly be some bumps along the way—there always are when we are learning and growing! But I am excited about what this year has in store for our students and families. Thank you for trusting us with your children and for being part of our BOLD community.
Here’s to a great year of learning, growing, connecting, and making memories together!

BOLD 7-12 News
Greetings Warrior Families:
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! After an extra-long summer, I am excited for everyone to be back in the building again. Staff have worked hard over the last few weeks to prepare for the upcoming year, and they are excited to share with students what they have been working on.
At our welcome-back gathering, we talked about some of the struggles we may face entering into our second full year of construction. We know there will be challenges, but we also know that we will rise to meet those challenges, as warriors always do. There are many things outside of our control right now, but we always get to choose how we respond to those things. Perspective is always a choice.
Besides the challenges we may face, we also talked about finding the good in every day, even on the hard days, especially on the hard days. There are joyful moments to be found everywhere when we decide to look for them. Feel free to ask your student what was good about their day or where they found joy in their day. Hopefully they’ll have an answer for you.
My door is always open for your thoughts, perspectives, comments, and concerns (or to hear about your joyful moments). Please reach out or schedule a time to meet with me. I am proud to be a partner in your child’s education. It’s going to be a great year!

Have a Skill or Hobby to Share?
We are always looking for Community Education instructors! If you have a talent, skill, hobby, or interest you would enjoy sharing with others, we would love to hear from you. You don't have to be a teacher or professional instructor. If you have something you enjoy and think others might enjoy learning, consider offering a class!
We have a classroom available in Bird Island that can be used for a variety of classes and activities. Fitness classes have been especially popular, and instructors may also have access to the weight room in Olivia during evening hours or fitness equipment in our Bird Island classroom.
We are also interested in adding new activities, workshops, and programs for all ages. If you have an idea or are interested in becoming an instructor, please contact Jessica Aaseth at jessica.aaseth@bold.k12.mn.us.
Have an idea? We'd love to help turn it into a Community Education opportunity!
