Principal Duckworth's Notes
Week of March 2, 2026
Hello Northglade Families, I hope you enjoyed your long weekend and Mid-Winter Break! below you will find what's going on this week at Northglade.
March is Reading Month and we have passed out our All School Read, Adventures according to Humphrey by Betty G. Birney. With this book, you should have received the 12 Day Reading Schedule. I have also attached it below for your convivence. So far you should have read Chapter 1 - We Set Sail for the Library, pages 1 -11. Monday we will be reading Chapter Two. This is a great time for you and your children to spend time reading together. Students will be asked questions daily, regarding what they read the night before. So make sure you and your family are keeping up with the readings.
On the Move
Our new address next year will be 3333 South Westnedge. We will have a Caregivers and Community meeting on Monday March 9 at 5:00. Please come so you can find out information about the move. Transportation, timelines and facility upgrades will be discussed. Please join us for this important information. The meeting will be held in the gymnasium.
E2 Global Reading Challenge
Our E2 students will participate in the School Level for the Global Reading Challenge. The event will take place in the gymnasium at 1:45. Parents of students who are in the Global Reading Challenge are encouraged to come.
Kindergarten and PEEP: A Great Start Readiness Program will hold an orientation on March 4 at all 17 Kalamazoo Public Schools elementary buildings. Sessions will be held at 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and at 5:30 p.m -7:00 p.m. Families are invited to attend the events to register, meet staff, tour schools and learn about the kindergarten and Pre-K experience at KPS.
Students who will be 5-years-old by Sept. 1 may enroll in kindergarten. Waivers are available for students who will be five between Sept. 1 and Dec. 1. All KPS elementary schools offer full-day kindergarten. Students are initially assigned to schools based on their home addresses.
Online enrollment for new students in all grades for the 2026-27 school year will open on March 4.
E2 Northglade Co-ed Basketball Team
Northglade will participate in having a co-ed basketball team. It is only for 4th and 5th graders. We have a few students signed up, however, we need a few more to make a complete team. Below you will find the link to put in your application. The cost is $35 -$45, however, scholarships are available. So go ahead and sign your student up to be part of this great team. Mr. Travis will be the coach.
Mrs. Brege's Request
The art room is in need of paper grocery bags (ideally ones with handles--like Trader Joes or Harding's) so I can send some artwork home with students soon!
You can just send them in with your students with a note that says ART on them. Also we are looking for volunteers to come and mount art work for teacher. So if you have some extra time, come help out the art teacher.
Northglade Montessori Community Facebook Page
Last week our E2 students did a wonderful job with their Annual African American Wax Museum. Please go to the Northglade Montessori Community Facebook page to see many of our students.
Tea Party
Please enjoy these pictures of our Children's House enjoying their Tea Party. This allowed them to work with table manners and food preparation.
