HW's Student Council

Our Student Council has met to have our first meeting. We meet monthly to talk about the WPS Character Trait of the Month and create posters to advertise the trait around our building. Student Council reps visit the classroom that they represent to present the poster and promote the trait.

Our first team-building activity was to plant tulip and daffodil bulbs next to our Kindness Rock Garden and around our Wyman St. Hurld Wyman sign. We are all excited to see what blooms this spring!

Music Notes

Hello everyone! It’s official - The Holiday Season is almost here! Halloween is right around the corner, followed by Thanksgiving Break, and then our Winter Shows!

Hurld Wyman Winter Shows 2026!

*Both shows are held in the Gym, and all K-5 students perform at the 9 AM and 1:30 PM Thursday shows*

Thursday, December 17th

*9AM Show for parents and caregivers with last names beginning with A-L

*1:30 PM Show for parents and caregivers with last names beginning with M-Z

Each grade level has been perfecting their two songs weekly in Music class along with their regular studies. The students are getting ready to wow you with their vocals, choreography, and instrument work!

I have spoken with the children regarding how to dress for the performances. They may wear fancy party clothes, holiday sweaters, suits, vests, dresses, skirts, etc...Of course, I will have props for them as well!

*************************************************************************************************************

In the month of October, Fifth Graders have continued their ukulele study working in small groups around the Music room, and in the breakout room. Fourth Graders sound amazing as they practice one of their Holiday Show songs on their recorders!

Fourth and Fifth Graders are mastering their abilities to play a major, minor, and pentatonic scale on the xylophones. We will begin bucket drumming, as well as play djembes, tubanos, and congas. We continue to review the names of the lines and spaces on the treble staff, and have sung rounds, and partner songs.

Third Graders now know the fingerings for the notes b, a, g, e, and d on their recorders. As with the 4th and 5th graders, they will also continue their work with naming the notes on the lines and spaces on the staff. I have introduced rounds to our Third Graders, and proper xylophone playing.

Our Second Graders enjoy using drums, xylophones, and auxiliary percussion. We are focusing on playing and echoing my rhythms, remembering note values, and learning the Italian words for tempo, (speed), and dynamics, (soft to loud). The children have started to locate the notes on the treble staff: Spaces - F, A, C, E and the Lines - Empty Garbage Before Dad Flips

First Graders and Kindergarten students are learning/reviewing note names, and simple rhythms. Proper instrument playing is regularly discussed. Playing an instrument to a steady beat is a skill that the children have improved upon each week! Songs and activities for the Fall season that promote steady beat work include Apple Tree, Ghost Of John, and Five Little Pumpkins.
