Message from Corey
Good afternoon, Lincoln families,
It was a great start to the school year, and I greatly enjoyed having all our students back in classes. As you spend time with your students this weekend, be sure to ask them about their classes to get an early start on some goal setting for the year. As I will frequently share, one of the best supports you can provide at home is to create a consistent time and space for students to complete homework, study, and engage in individual exploration.
Today was our fall kick-off spirit assembly. What a great time for our students to celebrate the start of the year. Our school is organized in four mixed-grade level houses. Last year, our square house took home the championship cup, and we started strong with house competitions between square, oval, triangle and circle. If you don’t know which house your student belongs to, be sure to ask them.
As a reminder, Lincoln is a secure campus with a single point of entry. Before school, and any time a student or guest arrives during the school day, please make sure you are entering through the main entrance off Interlake. This helps maintain the security and safety of our campus throughout the day.
Students do have the ability to leave campus at lunch, but only with parent/guardian permission. We encourage all students to stay on campus during lunch hours. Students may bring their lunch or grab food in our commons at nutrition services. Thanks to a new partnership with the City of Seattle, we are now able to provide city-funded free meals at all our schools that include one complete breakfast and one complete lunch per student per day. Students must enter their information at the point of sale, either with a bar code or with their student ID number.
Even with the availability of these free meals, I want to encourage all families to still complete the Child Nutrition Education and Benefits (CNEEB) application. The information helps schools receive important funding and resources and may qualify students for additional educational benefits. Families who do not wish to provide income information can select the new "Decline Benefits" option. Visit the Culinary Services webpage to learn more about meal program and how to complete the CNEEB application.
We do recognize that some families may want to give their student permission to leave campus to purchase lunch at one of our local businesses. This is an individual family decision. We are asking families to talk with their students about whether you will allow them to leave campus for lunch. If you do give them permission, please make sure you outline your expectations for this privilege. Students leaving campus must return to school on time and promote positive citizenship in our community. If students are arriving late back from lunch or we receive community concerns about their behavior, we will ask that families plan for their student to remain on campus. Today we had hundreds of students arrive late back from lunch – so this will be a needed area of focus and partnership we can work on together. We will start actively marking tardies next week.
As you are talking with your student about how the first week went, I encourage you to help them identify opportunities they want to explore this year. Setting a consistent time each week to check in with your student is one of the best ways for us to grow our partnership with each other throughout the year.
As we close out our first week please make sure you have saved the date for our upcoming Curriculum Night on September 22nd. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. where you will follow the class schedule of your student starting with Mentorship at 6:15 p.m..
Please make sure you have signed up to support the inaugural Lynx on the Loose: Catch Corey 5K—This event isn't just about running a 5K. It's about strengthening the Lincoln community, supporting our students, and creating a new tradition that celebrates everything that makes Lincoln High School special. Participants will run, jog, or walk the course (you can also register your support without participating). Register now to participate, volunteer or send a donation.
This will be our final week of running all the start-of-year information below. Please make sure you do a final review so that you have the information you need for a successful year.
Have a great weekend. Lincoln is closed on Monday for Memorial Day. As always, I appreciate your support and partnership.
Best,
Corey

Important Announcements and Information
Free Meals for Students
Thanks to a new partnership with the City of Seattle, free meals are available for all students.
As a result, every SPS student at every school can now receive:
- One free breakfast each school day
- One free lunch each school day
Meals are provided at no cost when they meet U.S. Department of Agriculture meal program requirements. Additional items, snacks, second entrées, or individual items that are not part of a complete meal may be charged separately.
What Families Need to Know
Even though meals are free, students must continue to enter their information when receiving a meal by scanning their student barcode or entering their student ID number at the cafeteria point of sale. This process supports required meal-program records and funding.
Please Complete the CNEEB Application
While school meals are available to all students at no cost, SPS encourages every family to complete the Child Nutrition Eligibility & Education Benefit (CNEEB) application. The information helps schools receive important funding and resources and may qualify students for additional educational benefits. Families who do not wish to provide income information may select the “Decline Benefits” option.
Learn More
Learn more about school meals and the CNEEB application on the SPS Culinary Services webpage.
Student Schedules
Schedule change request forms are now available online through the Counselor Schoology page.

Athletics and Student Activities
Athletic Information
Lincoln High School encourages all students to explore and participate in our athletic program. Fall sports officially begin August 19th for football and August 24 for all other sports. Please email individual coaches for more details on when and where practices will be held. Signing up through Final Forms and indicating the sport you would like to play is how the coaches build their distribution list.
All athletes need to have an updated sports’ physical, which is good for two years. If you need help finding a provider to get a physical, contact our Athletic Director, Ms. Ware, or our Teen Health Center.
For more information visit our LHS athletic page. Athletic registration for Fall, Winter & Spring can be found at our registration page.
While teams may suggest a financial donation as part of our fundraising to cover the costs of gear, supplies and other expenses from families, these are suggested donation amounts and should not prevent student participation. Athletics are open to all students regardless of the ability to pay any suggested sports fee.
Please visit Metro League for game and schedule information.

News from SPS
Dear SPS Students and Families,
As promised in our recent communication regarding the transition from Naviance to SchooLinks we are reaching out with an important update regarding access to student files in Naviance.
Thanks to the thoughtful feedback we received from students, families, and staff, Seattle Public Schools has identified a way to significantly extend access to Naviance records and materials.
We are pleased to share that students will be able to access documents stored in Naviance from Sept. 1 – Oct. 31, providing two additional months to retrieve and save materials they would like to keep. These materials may include resumes, essays, career and college planning documents, journal entries, and other student-uploaded files.
We strongly encourage students and families to take advantage of this extended access period, as documents stored in Naviance will no longer be accessible after Oct. 31.
Clever and all Clever applications will be unavailable through Aug. 31. When Clever access returns on Sept. 1, students will be able to log in to Naviance.
Naviance should only be used to review, download, and save documents or materials you want to keep. Any new uploads, updates, or activities completed in Naviance during this time will not be saved. Students should use SchooLinks for all current and future High School and Beyond Plan activities.
Beginning Sept. 2, students will begin accessing SchooLinks for High School and Beyond Plan activities moving forward.
SchooLinks is an exciting new tool that will support students in planning for their future and managing their High School and Beyond Plan. Learn more about SchooLinks on the High School and Beyond Plan webpage.
As with any new system, we recognize that it will take time for students, families, and staff to become familiar with its features and opportunities. Our focus this fall is on giving everyone the chance to explore the platform, learn how it works, and build confidence using it. More information will be shared in the coming weeks.
Thank you for your patience, understanding, and feedback as we continue the transition to SchooLinks. We look forward to supporting your students in their high school and beyond planning the coming year.
Sincerely,
Bev Redmond
Chief of Staff
Seattle Public Schools
