Counseling Updates
BASC-3 BESS
Dear Parents/Guardians,
In our continuing efforts to support the well-being of all students, City Schools of Decatur (CSD) will administer a universal screener of social, emotional, and behavioral health. In the 2025-2026 school year, CSD adopted the Behavior Assessment for Children, 3rd edition, Behavior and Emotional Screening System (BASC-3 BESS) as the universal screener for behavior.
For the 2025-26 school year, students in grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 will take the student self-report of the screener at their school during the fall and spring administration dates. The spring administration begins on March 2 and runs through March 27.
Please access the Universal Social Emotional Behavior Screener Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on the CSD website to learn more.

Say Something Anonymous Reporting System (ARS)
Talley will be training our 4th & 5th grade students in the Say Something-Anonymous Report System on 3/2/26-3/13/26. Please read this flyer to learn about the program.
Program Overview
The Say Something-Anonymous Reporting System (ARS) program empowers students to be Upstanders and say something to a Trusted Adult when they recognize warning signs and threats as well as offers ways students can grow a community of Upstanders. The program is designed around three goals that are accomplished using the program’s framework and reinforced through the program cycle.
Goals
The three goals of the Say Something-ARS program are to teach students how to:
- Recognize warning signs and threats of someone who may be at-risk of hurting themselves or others.
- Say something to a Trusted Adult to get help and how to submit a tip to the Anonymous Reporting System.
- Grow a community of Upstanders who look out for one another.
Program Framework
The goals are accomplished using our three-step program framework:
- Recognize Warning Signs and Threats: Learn what warning signs and threats are and where they are likely to be found.
- Act Immediately: Take it Seriously: Learn why it’s important to take action immediately when warning signs and threats are observed.
- Say Something: Learn when to tell a trusted adult when warning signs and threats are observed as well as how to submit a tip using the Say Something- Anonymous Reporting System.
Family STEM Night: March 12, 5:00 pm
Save the date for Talley's Family STEM Night! This year's theme is "STEM Careers Start Here." Join us on Thursday, March 12, at 5 pm to learn about STEM careers, featuring lots of special guests!
Plastic Film for House Points
Mark your calendars! Our next collection for house points will be Wednesday, March 11. Through your support, we have recycled almost 800 pounds of plastic film from August through February. Please make sure your plastic film is clean of any food and dry. Do not mix other types of plastic (plastic containers, snack wrappers) in with the plastic film. Thank you!
Other Recycling News
- Starting mid-March, we will begin a special collection of PET #1 plastic bottles as part of a school competition organized by LiveThrive for Earth Day. Stay tuned for details!
- We appreciate everyone's help in recycling at the Amistad Dance. Collectively, we saved 270 plastic cups and more than 75 plastic bottles from ending up in the garbage, along with several bags of snack wrappers and a ton of pizza boxes! We truly appreciate our parent volunteers who assisted that evening.
- Green Team is seeking large plastic bins (with lids, preferably) that can be used for recycling overflow in the cafeteria. If you have bins at home that you can donate, we would really appreciate it. Please reach out to Mrs. Roberts at kathryn.roberts@csdecatur.net.

Students interested in becoming a part of the Green Team should complete our Sign-Up Form. Are you a parent who is passionate about sustainability? Green Team isn't just for students. We welcome parents who are available to help in the morning before school starts, during lunchtime and after school.
Take GaDOE's Annual School Climate Survey
Please take a moment this week to make your voice heard and participate in the Georgia Department of Education climate survey for your school! Your participation and feedback are greatly appreciated. The data collected will help determine the School Climate Star Ratings for the 2026-27 school year, which will enable schools to improve or build upon their successes.
- There’s still time to spread kindness and appreciation to our amazing school bus drivers during Love My Bus Month! We encourage families to help students thank drivers and monitors – with a heartfelt note, a handmade card, or small thoughtful gift – for all they do. This week, the Talley PTO was proud to treat all 16 of our incredible bus drivers and monitors to a Talley swag bag and a Chick-fil-A gift card as a small token of our appreciation. Let’s continue to make our bus drivers and monitors feel valued all year long!
- Join us next week for the return of Walk & Roll on Friday, March 6th!
