Weekly Update

Dear Elmore School Families,

It was an abbreviated week as students had an early release on Thursday and no school on Friday to allow time for family / teacher conferences. I appreciate everyone taking time to meet with over the past two days and for your flexibility to have virtual conferences as I continued to recovered from my recent COVID illness. I was reflecting yesterday that it was 6 years ago when we were forced to shut down schools and we (teachers, students and parents) were just trying to figure out how we were going to proceed with educating children virtually. We learned a lot during that time, and while we are so glad most of that is behind us, there was some good that come from it all. One is the flexibility and ability to hold meetings virtually when necessary. I am also aware, that while it seems like a moment ago for many of us, the first graders were just babies during the pandemic, and many parents didn't have to do remote school with their children. So again, thank you, for your flexibility, even when technology gave some of us issues yesterday! I will finish in person conferences early next week.

While I was out last week, Mrs. Bellavance was the glue that held things together! Students continued drafting their "Nature Name" informational text with a focus on writing their body and conclusion. During phonics lessons, students practiced reading and spelling words using targeted phonics rules.

During math first graders began using strategies to solve subtraction equations involving teen numbers. Second graders bagan adding and subtracting using a number line, and third graders continued working with fractions and placing fractions on a numberline in relationship to whole numbers. Students had a science lesson this week that focused on states of matter and materials that have reversible changes and irreversible changes.

Students made the most out of the fresh snow we received last weekend. below you can see some pictures of students getting creative with the snow! Thank you to Mrs. Bellavance for capturing these images!

Our school concert is quickly approaching on Wednesday April 8th at 6:30 pm at the Elmore Town Hall. All students are expected to attend. Students should plan to arrive by 6:20 to get organized. Students should plan to dress nice (not fancy) for this event with pants or a skirt and a blouse, shirt with a collar, or sweater, OR a dress. No athletic wear (sweatshirts, sweatpants, hoodies, tee shirts,) or hats, please.

Please plan to bring a refreshment (baked good, drink, or snack) to share after the concert.

We will have school Hot Lunch on Monday and Wednesday next week. The lunch menu for April is not posted yet, but I will update when it is. Please send your lunch orders for next week by 6:00 pm Sunday.

That's it for this week. Have a great weekend!

In gratitude,

Diane Nicholls
