Principal's Message
Dear Mustang Families,
We’re glad to be back on our regular schedule this week, with our usual 1:30 p.m. Monday release. Thank you for helping students arrive ready to learn and support one another—those small, everyday habits make a big difference.
This Wednesday, October 22, is Unity Day. We invite all students and staff to wear orange as a visible reminder to stand together for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. Throughout the day, classes will reflect on how we treat one another—using kind words, including others at recess, and speaking up for ourselves and our friends. If your child wants a simple way to prepare, try practicing a few phrases at home like “Can I play with you?” or “I don’t like that—please stop.”
Thank you for the many ways you help Maple feel safe and welcoming—checking in with your child, encouraging empathy, and celebrating the good choices we see every day. When home and school pull together, our Mustangs grow in confidence and care.
With Mustang Pride,
Meghann O’Weger
Principal, Maple Elementary

Food Deliveries
We have seen an increase in food deliveries for students. To be clear, our office staff CANNOT manage daily food drop offs for students. We cannot guarantee that the student will be able to receive food drop offs in the front office. We do NOT accept Door Dash or delivery service food for students under any circumstances. The delivery driver will be turned away. Please limit food drop offs to emergency situations only as it is a burden on our hard working front office staff. Our district is proud to offer free lunch for every student on campus every day. Please save special food from restaurants for our family picnic lunch days and encourage your student to remember to bring their lunch or order from the cafeteria.
Important Update About Neighborhood Activities
From time to time, individuals or groups in the community will distribute information and advertisements to parents/guardians on the public sidewalks during school arrival or dismissal. This information is not affiliated or endorsed by Maple Elementary school and CVUSD.
Any approved communications (i.e. announcements, fliers) from Maple Elementary school and CVUSD will be provided directly from the school to you via email, or given to your students to take home.
If you ever are unsure whether or not materials are from Maple and CVUSD, please do not hesitate to contact the front office at 805-498-6748.
Important E-Bike Laws & Safety Information
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office would like to address our youth and young adults' growing use of E-bikes, bicycles, and electric scooters. These vehicles can be useful in reducing traffic and allowing young people a means of transportation other than motor vehicles to school and other activities. However, we have seen recent increases in collisions involving our youth on e-bikes, bicycles, and scooters. The increased speed provided by E-bikes and electric scooters requires increased care in their use:
🛑 Traffic rules must be followed, and helmets must be worn at all times.

Special Education District Advisory Committee (SEDAC) Updates
Special Education District Advisory Council (SEDAC)
What is SEDAC?
A district advisory council made up of parent/caregiver representatives, who currently represent over 2000 students with IEPs or 504s, and their families from CVUSD school sites and programs, preschool to post secondary.
Our Purpose:
We advise and support the CVUSD in ensuring high quality special education and related services for all students who have IEPs or 504s. In collaboration with district administration we work to improve the educational experience and outcomes for students by providing recommendations on polices, procedures and resources related to special education services.
Committee sign-ups - our committees is where much of our district recommendations come from. They meet outside of our meeting time, some meet virtually. I’ll be sending you a Google link if you’re interested in joining one . Just a few to mention, safety committee, communication and many more. You do not have to be a rep to sign up for these.
Unity Day and Inclusive Schools week events - school are planning, our Disability Inclusion Toolkit is a great resourc
Highlighting Instances of Inclusion - Sedac would love to highlight those staff members at our schools who are taking steps towards meaningful inclusion. Not only does this help give us all ideas of what can be done, but it also acknowledges our hard-working staff and we know just how much that can mean to be seen and valued.
Happy to discuss further if you have any questions.

Updated CVUSD Cell Phone Policy
We wanted to make sure you are aware of the new district cell phone policy. I am sure you are aware of the dependency that many pre-teens and teenagers have to mobile devices. It has made it increasingly more difficult for kids to pay attention in class, engage with their peers, and we have seen an increase in students reporting anxiety and depression as a a result. We know that we need to do something different to help kids. Therefore, we are making school cell phone free areas. As a parent myself, I understand that parents are concerned about safety. We ALWAYS allow students to call home from the office. If you are putting a watch on your child, it must remain in "school mode." Any child found texting, accessing the internet, or using aps on their phone will have their phone/watch confiscated and it will need to be picked up from the office by an adult.
