Central News

Dear Central PS Families -
We have had a fun and festive week at Central! There have been lots of fall-themed activities in classrooms, Diwali crafts, as well as a Halloween dance on on Thursday afternoon. The weather has been gorgeous and we are taking advantage of the beautiful fall surroundings! Students are learning and having so much fun!
A few recent highlights include field trips to Gould Lake & Molly Brant for culinary enrichment & the Screening room.
Pizza lunch was a huge hit last week! Thank you to our grade 7 & 8 class for organizing and delivering it. We are planning a pizza lunch weekly as a fundraiser for year end trips. Details are available on School Day.
While students are well into school routines, there are a few expectations that we are hoping families can help to reinforce at home. We continue to witness hands-on behaviours on the yard. These are dealt with immediately by staff on the yard or admin. We remind students that we do not solve problems/disagreements with our hands. Progressive discipline will ensue where repeated incidents occur.
We have received information from bus drivers and companies that students are eating on the bus (and leaving a mess). Students are reminded that there is no eating on the bus, as it can pose a safety concern (choking) and pose a danger for bus riders with allergies. Further, students should remain in their seat for their entire bus ride for safety. We will be reminding students of this regularly and appreciate the support from home about this as well.
This coming week we will be spending some time preparing for Remembrance Day. We are thankful for the many resources and opportunities provided by both the LDSB team as well as Veterans Affairs. Each class will prepare a wreath and we will be holding a Remembrance Day assembly on Monday November 11th in the gym. Families are welcome to attend.
In November, we honour National Indigenous Education Month across the Limestone District School Board. During this month, educators are encouraged to learn and teach about Indigenous perspectives, histories, and realities, while using authentic Indigenous voices and resources in the classroom. We take this time to celebrate the unique cultures and languages of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples across Turtle Island and to reflect upon the diversity and brilliance of Indigenous communities.
This past weekend the clocks "fall back" to Standard Time. Often the changing of the clocks signals the start of the later fall season and cooler weather. While we have been spoiled with sunny skies, no doubt there will be changes coming. Including an extra layer in a backpack can help with comfort while out for the 2 recess breaks each day.
As always, we are grateful for the support of parents/guardians and the community.
Kind regards,
H. Barrett & M. Allport and the Central team

Jingle Bell Walk/Run
Hello Central Bears and Families
Central Public School will once again be collecting food to support the Partner’s In Mission Foodbank as part of our partnership with KFL&A Healthy Schools initiative The Jingle Bell Run.
Starting the first week of November students from Mrs. Hagberg & Ms. Andrews Kindergarten class will set out collection boxes at the front office. Students and families are invited to place items in the boxes throughout the month of November. Last year we were able to collect 7 large boxes as a school. This year, Kindergarten class is challenging every class to try and fill a box -10 boxes to donate!
In early December we will complete our Jingle Bell Run!
The Jingle Bell Run is an opportunity for students, staff and families to kick off the season in a festive and active way. It encourages youth to find fun and easy ways to be active everyday, all while helping those in need. The event provides physical and mental health benefits and fosters students’ connection to our community. Each student will run with a jingle bell in order to draw attention to our mission.
Thanks in advance Central Bears for your support!
When to stay home?
Click Here for a list of KFL&A exclusions. As a reminder, children should stay home until they have no fever and their symptoms are improving for at least 24 hours (or 48 hours if they have gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting and/or diarrhea). Once symptoms start improving, they are encouraged to return to school, if they are well enough to do so.
Attendance Matters!
We will be working hard to promote regular attendance, at Central and all across the Limestone District School Board. We will be sharing information about how to set up healthy habits and we will be reaching out to families as attendance concerns arise. We want to work with you to promote regular attendance at school. If there is a way we can help you, please let us know!
School Trips & Volunteers
Throughout the year, we may ask for parent/guardian volunteers on school trips or for various classroom and school activities. The wait time for obtaining a CPIC (background check with vulnerable sector screening) can be lengthy. As such, if you think you would be willing to assist with a trip or school event in the future, please consider obtaining a CPIC with vulnerable sector screening completed, beforehand.
To get a Vulnerable Sector Check you may be required to provide a letter from the school indicating that you will be volunteering. We can send this to you!
