As we near the end of the school year, students in Ms. Taylor’s 7th grade math classes are staying positive and pushing through with great energy! We’re wrapping up our final topics of probability and transformations and making sure we finish strong! It’s been a year of change and growth, and we’re proud of all the progress made!

Kreider Farms Field Trip Kreider Farms Field Trip

A small group of students from Scott and North Brandywine Middle Schools had the chance to visit Kreider Farms on Monday, May 5th to see where agriculture meets manufacturing. The students from Scott that were interested wrote a short essay to Mrs. Lamothe about why they were interested in the trip, and she chose 22 students. Students were given a tour of the Kreider Farm and manufacturing plant. They also had the opportunity to climb to the top of the Silo tower to see amazing views of the town below. The trip was sponsored by Chester County Economic Development Council. All who went had a wonderful time!

Upcoming 6th Grade Information Night Upcoming 6th Grade Information Night

zoom_out_map

On Wednesday, May 7th, Mrs. Lamothe welcomed 125 incoming 6th graders and their families for an engaging evening at Scott Middle School.

The night began with an introduction to what Scott Middle School is all about, followed by a variety of hands-on experiences. Families had the chance to tour the building, practice opening combination locks, and learn more about our curriculum, clubs, and PBIS program.

It was a fantastic evening that we hope helped ease some of the nerves for the future Class of 2032!

Final Wellness Event for the School Year Final Wellness Event for the School Year

zoom_out_map
On Friday May 9, Scott Middle School hosted the third in our series of Mental Health Wellness Events. May is Mental Health awareness month, and this series was designed to improve our ability to manage and cope with conflict. This particular session, sponsored by the Coatesville youth initiative (CYI) Community Coalition, focused on active listening skills and strategies. As you may recall, previous events this year taught us the coping skills we all need to better regulate our emotions and broader conflict resolution. Presenters represented community agencies and organizations from across Coatesville. We are very thankful to CYI, the YMCA, CCIU, Crime Victims Center, Family Services, Maternal Child health Consortium, Chester County Drug and Alcohol services, and the Juvenile Probation Office for taking the time to be with us.

Important Safety Notice Regarding a Dangerous Tik Tok Challenge Important Safety Notice Regarding a Dangerous Tik Tok Challenge

zoom_out_map

It has recently come to our attention that a TikTok challenge is encouraging students to insert metal objects—such as paper clips, push pins, or mechanical pencil lead—into the USB ports of school-issued devices. This behavior can result in electrical sparks, smoke, or even fire, posing a serious safety risk. In some videos, students are seen inserting pencil lead into Chromebook USB ports, which causes sparking, smoking, and, in some cases, activates fire alarms.

Unfortunately, we had to speak with several students this week who were attempting similar actions. We urge you to speak with your child about the severe dangers associated with this behavior. Not only is it a clear violation of our electronics policy and student code of conduct—which may lead to disciplinary consequences including possible expulsion—but it also endangers the safety of our entire school community.

Our top priority is the well-being of all students, and we are committed to maintaining a safe learning environment. Additionally, these actions can cause significant damage to school property. The cost to replace a Chromebook is currently $320.

We greatly appreciate your support in speaking with your child about the risks of participating in harmful social media trends and the importance of using school-issued technology responsibly.

May's PBIS Focus... Cell Phones Off and Away May's PBIS Focus... Cell Phones Off and Away

This month we will be focusing again on keeping cell phones off and away. The expectation is that when students enter the building, their cell phones are turned off and put away. Students should not have their phones out during class, in the hallways or during lunch. Students that follow this expectation for the month of May will be be rewarded at the end of the month.

Thank you for supporting this initiative!
