Academic UIL Meet

We are thrilled to host the Middle School UIL Invitational Meet this Saturday, February 22, right here at Hays! This is a reminder that the tournament website contains all the essential information you and your students will need regarding the schedule. The competition room assignments are updated.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER:

  • Students plan to arrive 30 minutes before your event's start time and check in at the library. You will be told when to go to your classroom. Room assignments will be posted in the cafeteria. Parents will remain in the cafeteria.
  • Writing Events: students bring Chromebooks
  • Calculator Event: coach will have the calculators for you
  • Informative & Persuasive Coaches: students bring Chromebooks for prep.
  • All students in speaking events MUST come to the Prelim rounds. The top 6-8 will advance to finals.
  • All results of those advancing and final results of contests will be posted on the tournament website page.

There are some events where we have had drops and now are going straight to finals. The students in the following events will ONLY have the morning round. All students in these events will medal and will compete at the morning time and will then be done for that event.

🚗Carpool Reminders

  • There are two carpool lanes at Hays - one in the front and one in the back of the building. Follow the flow of traffic in these lanes.
  • Parking lots are reserved for those who are parking and coming into the building with a purpose. Students should not be dropped off or picked up in parking lots as this creates unnecessary delays in the flow of the carpool as well as a potential hazard as students cross through traffic.
  • The lane and lot by the gyms (south side of the building) are reserved for buses.
  • Do not stop and let your kids out on Hillcrest Road. This causes traffic congestion as well as a serious safety concern.
  • Please be courteous of other drivers, crossing guards, and pedestrians as you are dropping off or picking up your child.
  • From Officer Emily:

    • Traffic cones placed by a police officer are considered official traffic control devices, and moving them without authorization is not allowed. Drivers are required to comply with all traffic control devices, including cones placed by law enforcement. Moving cones could result in a traffic ticket or other legal repercussions.
