Have you ever asked your student how his/her day was and you get one word answers? Use these questions to ask specific questions about the week and get him/her talking!

• SS7 - Explain why the former Soviet Union diverted the Aral Sea sources & what environmental disaster occurred that destroyed the way of life for the people of Uzbekistan.
• Science 6 - What is a strategy or some characteristics you used to organize the weather data?
• Acc. Math 7 - Where do we see angle relationships in the real world? How might knowing these relationships help in city planning?
• Science 7 - What are biomes and what biome are you using for your independent research project?
• ELA 6 - Define Objective Summary and Central Idea.

• ELA 7 - The analysis part in your essay means you do what?

• Math 6 - How can a good data display help you understand a data set at a glance? What are some characteristics that a good data display might include?

• Math 7 - How do you multiply a fraction with a whole number?

• Band - Have you turned in any video pass-offs in google classroom for band yet? You can do this anytime to get caught up or work ahead on your pass-offs.

• EAST - What is the SMART goal for your project?

• Adv. ELA 7 - What are the differences between euphonious sounds and cacophonous sounds?

• Language Lab - Why is it important to know the similarities and differences when using subjects and predicates? How does knowing the definition of prefixes help you when you are reading?

• Music - How do you change a whole note to a half note and then to a quarter note?

• Keycode - Do you think it is more important to type fast or to be accurate? Are you using the proper technique, or do you find yourself clinging to your old typing habits?

HMS Student Council is hosting a tailgate for the HMS vs. HTMS basketball game. Tickets are $9 and include food after school and entry into the basketball game. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, Jan 31 in the HMS school store. There are only 150 tickets available! Students who purchase a ticket will receive an armband on gameday. Students need to be picked up at HMS at 5:40. The theme is NEON! "GLOW" Heroes!

Hellstern Middle, Central Junior High, and Har-Ber High Schools work very closely together to ensure smooth transitions to each school. We are committed to making the process as easy as possible for your students and you! It's hard to believe, but it is already time to start talking about transitions.

For our future 8th graders, here is a list of what will be happening this month and next:

• January 23rd - 27th: Future 8th grade students/parents will access "Future 8th Grade Transition" slide show (linked here)

• January 31st: CJHS Open House from 5-6:30; Open House: Tables will be set out for parents/students to visit to get information on classes including electives. This will include tables for Fine Arts, Athletics, electives.
• February 6th - 10th: Future CJH students will enter classes into Home Access Center (HAC) *2/6- Champions 2/7- Explorers 2/9- Patriots & 2/10- Make-up
• March 6th & 7th Hellstern Conferences : Final parent/student sign-off of 2023-24 schedule

Here is an outline of what will be happening at the Parent Night - some details are subject to change as we get closer to Feb. 7th.

Tuesday, February 7th: Co-Parenting Across Separations and Generations

Participants will learn skills for co-parenting after separation or within an extended support network: how to set boundaries, communicate, maintain relationships, and resolve conflicts. Register here.

The next meeting is February 7th @ 8:30am.
