Dear Families,

The first week of October is National Fire Prevention Week, and we are excited to have the Austin Fire Department come to Perez tomorrow morning to teach students how to stay safe in the event there is a fire. All students will join in an interactive presentation on fire prevention and safety, and we are thankful to Austin Fire for helping spread this important message to our students and community. A special thanks to our PE coaches for helping organize the learning opportunity for students! I want to invite you, families, and your children to share a word of appreciation with our custodial team and our teacher assistants. Last week was teacher assistant appreciation week and this week is custodial appreciation week. As you've probably noticed, we have outstanding teacher assistants and custodians - they go above and beyond for our students and school, and I hope you'll join me in thanking them for all they do! Your words of gratitude truly change their day! Finally, I want to invite you to sign up for family conferences. You should have received information in your child's Thursday folder. Family conference day is October 12th (no school), and teachers will share important information about your child's starting point this year and growth goals. We look forward to collaborating during family conferences this month!

La primera semana de octubre es la Semana Nacional de Prevención de Incendios, y nos complace anunciar que mañana por la mañana el Departamento de Bomberos de Austin visitará la escuela Perez para enseñar a los estudiantes cómo mantenerse seguros en caso de incendio. Todos los alumnos participarán en una presentación interactiva sobre prevención y seguridad contra incendios; agradecemos al Departamento de Bomberos de Austin por ayudarnos a difundir este mensaje tan importante entre nuestros estudiantes y la comunidad. ¡Un agradecimiento especial a nuestros maestros de educación física por ayudar a organizar esta oportunidad de aprendizaje para los alumnos! Quiero invitarlos a ustedes y a sus hijos a expresar su agradecimiento a nuestro equipo de conserjes y a nuestros asistentes de maestros. La semana pasada celebramos la semana de agradecimiento a los asistentes de maestros y esta semana celebramos la de los conserjes. Como probablemente habrán notado, contamos con asistentes de maestros y conserjes excepcionales; ellos se esfuerzan al máximo por nuestros estudiantes y nuestra escuela, ¡y espero que se unan a mí para agradecerles todo lo que hacen! ¡Sus palabras de gratitud realmente alegran su día! Por último, quiero invitarlos a inscribirse para las conferencias con las familias. Deberían haber recibido información al respecto en la carpeta de los jueves de sus hijos. El día de conferencias con las familias es el 12 de octubre (no habrá clases), y los maestros compartirán información importante sobre el nivel inicial de sus hijos este año y sus metas de progreso. ¡Esperamos colaborar con ustedes durante las conferencias de este mes!

Please ensure you have your dashboard sign displayed at pick up, even if you walk up to get your child. This helps us ensure that children get home to the right adult, every day. If you don't have your pick up sign, please be prepared to park and show your ID to office staff. Please use the crosswalks!

Our food bank is open each Tuesday from 2:30-4:30pm for Perez families. Bring your reusable bags, park in a visitor space, and pick up your goods in portable 7!

• ACE: watch for information about ACE! This program offers free afterschool enrichment and academic support at Perez.
• EAC YMCA: learn more here. This program provides paid childcare afterschool at Perez. Register online for this program.
• City of Austin Rec Center Programs: learn more here. The closest rec center is the George Morales Dove Springs Rec Center.
