Where Learning is Personal Where Learning is Personal

Friday, April 24, 2026 Friday, April 24, 2026

Dear Winfield Families Dear Winfield Families

This week, students enjoyed a variety of enriching experiences, including field trips, assemblies, and taking advantage of the beautiful weather with outdoor learning opportunities.

A special thank you to the PTO for bringing the Orbit Earth Assembly to our students. Winfield School District 34 was proud to be the first public school in Illinois to host the Orbit Earth Expo Program. Students had hands-on learning experiences exploring the relationships among the Earth, Moon, and Sun. The Central Gym was darkened and filled with a large inflatable Earth model and a scale-sized moon, allowing students to actively engage in learning about eclipses, day and night cycles, seasons, gravity, tides, and more. It was a memorable and impactful experience that brought science concepts to life in a meaningful way.

Looking ahead, we have many exciting events coming up! We hope you will join us next Wednesday for our Student Showcase Night, “The Wonderful World of Winfield,” where our students will shine and share their learning. We will also celebrate with a fun Disney-themed Spirit Week, leading into the Tiger Run at the end of the week.

It’s truly an exciting time of year filled with sunshine, energy, and wonderful opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and celebrate together!

With Tiger Pride,

Melissa Doucet

Collecting now- May 22nd - Zeman's Kicks for Kids

Next week, we will begin collecting gently used or new footwear to support Zeman's Kicks for Kids, a charity near and dear to our school community.

Denise Zeman was a beloved PE teacher at Winfield who passed away in 2017. Our Central gym is named in her honor. Although she would never advertise it, Mrs. Zeman was known to discreetly buy shoes and other clothing items for her students in need.

To honor her memory and promote a local charitable cause, we are looking for any gently used footwear (any size or type) that your family would like to donate. Donations can be brought by your son or daughter and given to their classroom teacher. Each classroom will have a donation box, as well as the main office. These donated shoes get turned into money, which is then used to buy new shoes for local families of need in our area. Collection will start Monday, April 20th and end on Friday, May 22nd.

Thank you for your consideration!

This celebration simply wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of our school families. Thank you for helping us make this week one to remember!

Write letters of appreciation to staff: Send a note to one or more staff members thanking them for their efforts - these are compiled and given to staff in a special way. These notes are greatly appreciated and can lift spirits on difficult days! See the staff list here and drop off your letters to Karen Sabados (0S770 Garfield St.) by Sunday, 5/3. We’ll also have some card-making supplies and a collection box available at the Tiger Run!

Each staff member is selected by the end of the week--we are looking to collect 75 raffle prizes! We are accepting donations of small gifts around $10-15 to donate to the raffle. Some ideas include: gift cards, flower planters/baskets, trinkets/gadgets, electronic accessories, etc. Donations can be dropped off to Kelly Kurzer (0S708 Garfield Street) by Sunday 5/3. There will be a box on the porch. Feel free to text or email Kelly if you have any questions (630-337-2226 / winfieldpto@winfield34.org).

Did you know??

Our PTO fundraising efforts go beyond supporting big projects like the preschool playground—they also help enrich the everyday experiences of our students and staff. Funds raised throughout the year make it possible to provide engaging assemblies, teacher grants for classroom items not covered by the school’s budget, community-building social events and more!

Just yesterday, students enjoyed the exciting “Orbit Earth” assembly, made possible by the generous support of our school families and community sponsors through PTO/WEF fundraising. These opportunities are a direct result of your continued involvement and contributions, and they help create a more vibrant and engaging learning environment for all. Thank you for your continued support!

In third grade, students started a chapter on fractions this week in math. They learned how to identify equivalent fractions, generate equivalents, and compare fractions. They are also working hard on putting finishing touches on their biography projects. This week in 4th grade, students celebrated Earth Day in a big way! They wrote thoughtful Earth Day pledges, decorated the Earth with creative disguises, and conducted an experiment to demonstrate the process of erosion. In addition, students practiced solving analogies, which helped them build and strengthen their vocabulary skills. It was a fantastic week filled with meaningful learning and fun activities! In fifth grade, students wrapped up their unit on the coordinate plane. They also created posters about what different groups around the world are doing to protect the environment.
