CELC News & Updates

CELC Families,

Happy fall! I hope you had a nice weekend. It actually felt a little more like summer to me :).

We are excited for our annual Teddy Bear Picnic. Families are welcome to come join us on the lawn for a special lunch. Dual Language Kindergarten classrooms will be on Wednesday and English Only Kindergarten and all TK classes will be on Friday. Bring a lunch, blanket, and your favorite stuffed animal. Your child's teacher sent out information and the lunch times last week. If you have any questions, please contact the teacher. FYI If you plan to buy a lunch at a local spot in town, they get VERY busy. Expect long waits and plan accordingly. This will be especially true for the picnic on Friday.

We still need over 80 applications filled out. If you haven't already, please take the time to fill out the free/reduced application at https://www.alpineschools.net/o/ausd/page/free-and-reduced-meal-program to help CELC continue to receive Title I funding to support our students. Click on the SchoolCafe button to fill out the application. You will need your child's student ID number. You can get this in ParentVUE, ask your child's teacher, or call the office

Here are a few updates to help keep you informed:

  • Pastries with the Principal is an informal opportunity for parents to connect, hear more about what is going on around the site, and enjoy a treat. Please join us in the MPR if you would like to chat.

  • Please share any cute pictures that you take at the picnic. Send them to sgreen@alpineschools.net We will post them in the newsletter and/or on social media.

  • We LOVE volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, please pick up the required paperwork in the office. Please take the time to do it now. If you are not up-to-date on your TB clearance, make sure you allow time to get that done. We also need time to complete a background check.

  • Please send your student to school each day with a backpack, refillable water bottle, a healthy snack, and a lunch (unless they are getting a cafeteria lunch).
  • For the safety and security of students and staff, gates are locked during school hours.

  • Please use the front gate for entering and exiting the campus. the side gates are for employees only and must remain closed.
  • Please report any absences to your child's teacher and the office. Please let the office know the reason that your child is out and any symptoms if they are sick. Email Mary Barkely, our amazing Clerk or call the office at 619-659-8250.

  • Before and after school care is available. Please see the flyer below or contact Aimee Hatfield, AUSD's ESS Coordinator, at ahatfield@alpineschools.net if you have any questions.

  • For transportation questions, please visit AUSD's website at https://www.alpineschools.net/page/transportation

  • Here is last week's Cub Connection

I hope you have a Fantastic week!

Sincerely,

Tamara Ripke, Proud Principal

CELC PTA

We are thrilled that we have our PTA board positions filled. Please stay tuned for more information about upcoming meetings and events. Our Cubs are going to have a wonderful year. If you have any questions, you can email the PTA at creeksidekpta@gmail.com.

Attendance Matters

Building a habit of good attendance will help students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally at school. Please limit absences that are not related to illness. If you know ahead of time that your child will be out for 3 or more days, please request an independent study contract to help keep them engaged in learning. Please take a moment to read the flyer below to learn more facts about attendance.

Weekly Forecast

It looks like we will have a week of warm weather. See the forecast below to help plan your child's week.

Around Alpine Video- Season 2, Episode 3

AUSD is pleased to unveil Episode Three of Season Two of Around Alpine Union. Hear from students, teachers, and staff about Portrait of an AUSD Learner. This episode spotlights the first attribute among the seven that constitute our "Portrait of a Learner" framework – the attribute of leadership.

We will produce other episodes throughout the year to showcase and promote the wonderful work across our schools. These episodes will be shared across our social media platforms and in principal communications. Check out the video below.

Cubs in the Community

Mrs. Ripke will continue the Cubs in the Community tradition. Her goal is to connect with 100 Cubs (Future, Former, or Current) by the 100th day of school. Building relationships with our students is important to us! If you see Mrs. Ripke out in the community, encourage your student to say hi. Not only does it create an opportunity to connect, it also supports students' language and communication skills. Follow the sightings on FB and IG. Feel free to share our postings to spread the word. Mrs. Ripke (and the CELC staff) looks out for future, current, and former Cubs! She is ready to meet the 2023-24 challenge. See her latest sighting below! He was a little shy so Mrs. Ripke and his mom had to get creative.

CELC SCHEDULE

All TK classes are released at 1:35 pm daily until winter break. TK moves to the full day kindergarten schedule on Tuesday, January 9th. Lunch and recess times are subject to change based on enrollment and site needs.

Dismissal gates open at 1:30 pm and 2:45 pm. If you would like your student released early, please sign them out in the office.

Mark your calendars: We will have at 12:15 pm release November 13th-17th for Parent conferences.

School Rules

CELC has three school rules. Students will be learning behavior expectations that are aligned with being safe, responsible, and respectful. We practice Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). We understand that our students are still learning to problem solve and deal with school expectations. We believe in progressive discipline and restorative practices. Teachers and staff document concerns and communicate them with parents to form a partnership in your child's success. We love our Cubs and are looking forward to having a year of fun, friendships, learning and laughter!

Our Motto

Smiles for Miles

Humor helps the heart! Join us in spreading "Smiles for Miles!"

If you and your student have comedic talent, you are invited to submit a joke (written or video) to be shared in our weekly newsletter. All jokes must make us smile, be clean, follow school/district rules, and be age appropriate. Please fill out the Google Form to submit your joke. If you choose to do a video, attach it to the form.
