🚧 Water Line Replacement Project: N. 13th Avenue

A water line replacement project is scheduled to begin on North 13th Avenue (between Brooks Blvd and Dukes Pkwy) on or about Monday, March 16, 2026. The project is expected to last 6 to 8 weeks.

How this affects our school community:

  • Daytime Traffic & Detours: Phase 1 begins March 16. During the day, North 13th Ave will be closed between Dukes Pkwy and Bleecher St. All traffic will be diverted to North 10th Ave.

  • Minimizing School Disruption: To keep our learning environment quiet and safe, any work that significantly impacts the school property will be limited to nighttime hours and scheduled school breaks.

  • Drop-off & Pick-up: If you access ABIS from the North, you must use North 10th Ave and Bleecher St to reach the school.

Please allow extra travel time and drive safely through the detour zones.

🩺Dental Health Assembly🦷

On Friday, Roosevelt School held a special school-wide assembly to focus on the importance of healthy smiles! A huge thank you to our school nurse, Mrs. Sheffrin, for organizing this event and bringing in Ms. Toro to speak with our students.

The assembly was an engaging way to teach our students the "dos and don'ts" of oral hygiene. Students learned about proper brushing techniques and which snacks help keep their teeth strong and bright.

🚶‍♀️ Walking School Bus: Success! 🚌

On Friday, March 13th, Roosevelt School hit the pavement for another successful Walking School Bus! It was wonderful to see our students joining together to walk to school safely and start their day with some fresh air and exercise.

Our Walking School Bus program is a key part of why Roosevelt School recently earned the Safe Routes to School Gold Award. By walking together, our students are:

  • Learning Pedestrian Safety: Navigating crosswalks and intersections with adult guidance.

  • Reducing Traffic: Helping to clear up the morning "rush hour" around North 5th Ave.

  • Building Community: Catching up with friends and making new ones before our day begins.

A huge thank you to all the staff, parents, and crossing guards who help make these mornings safe and fun for our students!

💙 Counselor's Corner 💙 Counselor's Corner

✨ March Counseling Focus: Trustworthiness & Positive Affirmations

This month, Roosevelt students are learning about trustworthiness and the power of positive affirmations during their counseling lessons.

  • 3rd graders are creating a Chain of Trust to explore how trust connects us.
  • 4th graders are building Trustworthy Friendship Kits to understand what makes a reliable friend.

Through these activities, students will discuss:
✔️ What it means to trust someone
✔️ When it’s okay to share a secret (especially when safety is a concern)
✔️ How positive thinking strengthens friendships
✔️ Choosing a positive affirmation to encourage self-confidence

💡 Conversation Starters for Home:

  • Ask your child what they like about themselves and which affirmation they chose.
  • Talk about the difference between tattling and telling (reporting concerns for safety).
  • Discuss ways they can build trust with friends, teachers, and family members.

Encouraging these conversations at home will help reinforce the values of trust and positivity in their daily lives! 💙

🏫 Main Office Reminders 🏫 Main Office Reminders

Office Hours & Chain of Command

To ensure we can support every student and family effectively, please keep the following information in mind regarding our office hours and communication:

  • Office Hours: Our main office is open and ready to assist you from 8:15 AM to 4:15 PM.

  • Planning Your Visit: To ensure the right staff member is available to give you their full attention, we kindly ask that you schedule an appointment before coming to the school. This helps us keep our building secure and our schedules organized.

  • Ways to Connect: We welcome communication via phone, voicemail, email, and/or ParentSquare.

  • Response Time: We value your outreach! Please keep in mind that our staff follows a response window of 24 hours of the next business day for all messages and inquiries. We appreciate your patience as we work to get back to everyone.

Getting Help: Our Chain of Command

When you have a question or concern, the fastest way to get a resolution is to follow the district's "Chain of Command." This ensures you are speaking directly with the staff member who has firsthand knowledge of the situation.

Tech Tip: Sticker-Free Chromebooks! 💻

We love seeing our students' personalities shine, but please remind your child that school-issued Chromebooks should remain free of stickers, decals, and tape. Stickers often leave behind a sticky residue that can be difficult to remove and could cause damage. If you child currently has any stickers or decals, please remove them as soon as possible! Thank you for helping us keep our equipment in great shape!

🎒 Attendance Matters 🎒 Attendance Matters

🏫 Every Day Counts!

At Roosevelt School, we are committed to helping every student reach their full potential, and that starts with being in the classroom. Regular attendance is a key factor in academic success, as it ensures students don't miss out on critical instruction, hands-on activities, and social-emotional learning with their peers.

We want to remind our families that while we value time spent together, family travel and vacations are considered unexcused absences. These absences impact a student's overall attendance rate and can lead to gaps in learning that are difficult to bridge. We kindly ask that you plan trips around our scheduled school breaks to ensure your child remains on track for a successful school year.
