Looking for volunteers
The Mineral Point Homecoming Parade will take place on Thursday, October 3rd at 6:15 PM on High Street. To make this event a success WE NEED YOUR HELP. We are looking for lead volunteers. Lead volunteers will report to Water Tower Park by 5:45 and be the point of contact for the grade level they are volunteering for. Any parent/guardian or school staff interested in volunteering should sign up by emailing Jane Barr at jane.barr@mp.k12.wi.us or by calling the elementary school at 987-0710 by Wednesday.
Please consider volunteering to make the parade a successful event and to ensure continued participation for the Mineral Point Elementary students. Details include:
As in past years, all pre-K and kindergarten students wishing to participate in the parade must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
We strongly encourage all students in grades 1-5 to be accompanied by a parents/guardians.
Students must arrive by 5:55 PM at the Water Tower Park (Business Hwy 151 and Madison Street). Parents/guardians must check in with the volunteer for that child's grade prior to dropping off the child.
Following the parade, students will remain with a group of volunteers at the Library Park until they are picked up by parents/guardians. PARENTS: Please be prompt in the pick-up of your child(ren)!

We'd love to hear from you!
Hello MPES Parents and Guardians,
We'd appreciate your participation in a brief survey surrounding ideas around the start up of a monthly parent group. Your feedback would help to determine a direction for the group as well as the best times and days to offer such a group. If you have questions regarding this survey please reach out to:

Notes from the Nurse:
During the past week we have had nearly ten students demonstrate symptoms of Hand-Foot-and-Mouth disease, which is caused by a virus. Symptoms include ulcers or sores inside or around the mouth, and a rash or blisters on the hands, feet, legs, or buttocks. And while it is not pleasant, it also is not serious. Generally children under age of 10 years old are most likely to be affected.
What Causes It?
The viruses that usually cause hand-foot-and-mouth are named coxsackievirus (respiratory/saliva) and enterovirus (feces). Your child can be exposed to hand-foot-and-mouth through contact with someone who has it, or from something that has been in contact with the virus, such as a toy, tabletop, or doorknob. It tends to spread easily in the summer and fall.
Symptoms
Early symptoms may include fever and a sore throat (in younger kids fever and decreased eating or drinking). Painful blisters similar to cold sores can show up on the inside of your child's mouth usually in the roof of the mouth and/ or tongue.
Additionally a child may develop a rash on the palms of the hands or the soles of the feet. This rash may turn into blisters. Flat spots or sores may pop up on the knees, elbows, or buttocks. A child might have all of these symptoms, or only one or two.
How Is It Treated?
Hand-foot-and-mouth disease should go away on its own after 7 to10 days. There is no prescribed treatment other than ‘comfort measures” which may include the following:
Rest and adequate hydration (plenty of fluids)
Foods that soothe a sore throat: smoothies, yogurt, popsicles
Anti–itch lotions such as calamine.
Stop the Spread
Your child is most contagious in the first 7 days. But the virus can stay in the body for days or weeks after symptoms go away and it could spread through saliva or stool. The best prevention for reducing the potential for spreading the virus is to wash hands thoroughly, especially after changing a diaper or after wiping a runny nose.
Your child should be fever and symptom free before returning to school.
Please contact the District School Nurse, at Julie.pompos@mp.k12.wi.us or 608.987.0733 if you have any questions.
