π΅ Music Notes from Mr. Labonde π΅
Hello Aronimink Elementary School Parents!
My name is Chris LaBonde and I am the instrumental music teacher at Aronimink Elementary School. Iβve been teaching music in Upper Darby since 2003 and I have some exciting news! If you are the parent of a 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade student, your child has the chance to learn to play an instrument in the band (Gr 4-5 only) and/or the orchestra (Gr 3-5). Any student who plays an instrument receives a 30-minute lesson on their instrument during the school day once a week, and will also have a combined rehearsal with their whole ensemble (Orchestra or Band) once a week from 8:15 to 8:45 (4th and 5th grade only) to prepare for our Winter and Spring Concerts.
For all NEW instrument players, please use THIS registration GoogleForm. There is more information linked inside the GoogleForm that will guide you through the process and help you rent an instrument from Zeswitz Music, our district provider. Students who are renting a violin, viola, cello, or double bass will need to know their required size for their instrument before placing their rental order. All other instruments (besides percussion/drums) can be ordered as soon as you know your child's choice. There will be a link inside the registration GoogleForm with each student's required size, listed by classroom. I'll be measuring new students this week and beginning of next week. All new rentals must be placed before the end of September. Lessons begin as soon as your child's instrument and book arrives at Aronimink!
For all returning instrument players, make sure you have your transportation plans arranged so that your child has a ride to all 8:15 morning rehearsals. The first rehearsal for (all) BAND members is Thursday October 1st, and the first rehearsal for returning ORCHESTRA members is Tuesday, October 6th.
If you began renting an instrument from Zeswitz last year, and your child wants to try a different instrument this year, you can transfer the paid balance of your current instrument to a new instrument!
Make sure you are receiving and reading all Wednesday folder emails from our principal Mrs. Williams, and myself (clabonde@upperdarbysd.org) to stay up to date! Thank you for your time, and feel free to email me with any questions.

September is Attendance Awareness Month
Every school day matters. Regular attendance helps students stay connected to their teachers, classmates, and learning, while also building the habits they need for success in school and beyond. Establishing consistent morning and evening routines, planning ahead for appointments, and communicating with your childβs school when challenges arise can make a meaningful difference in student attendance.
Together, we can help every student be present, engaged, and ready to learnβbecause every day counts!

Aronimink Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
To ensure a smooth and safe experience for all students and families, please adhere to the following arrival and dismissal procedures.
BEFORE SCHOOL PROCEDURES
Students should not arrive at school prior to 8:35 AM. The Aronimink doors will open at 8:35 AM to allow all students to safely enter the building and make their way to their designated space. Students will remain in their supervised assigned until the start of the school day at 8:45 am.
AFTER SCHOOL PROCEDURES
Teachers of children in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades will walk their students to their designated exit area at dismissal. Parents should walk up to meet their child so that the teacher can see them and acknowledge the pick-up. It is essential that parents send changes in dismissal arrangements in the form of a note or email to the classroom teacher. For safety reasons, the school will request identification from the adult at the time of pick-up. If anyone other than the parent picks up the child, they must be listed on the emergency card and have photo identification.
Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 will be dismissed from their classrooms. Be sure to let your childβs teacher know about any concerns or alternate plans about dismissal. Also be sure to tell your child what to do if your dismissal plans change. ALL STUDENTS should know that they can immediately return to the school office to call home or wait safely for a ride.
Please see the detailed arrival and dismissal plans by clicking the links above.

Volunteers
If you are a VOLUNTEER or want to be a volunteer, please be sure to visit our website to review a full description of the requirements for a volunteer (https://www.upperdarbysd.org/departments12/human-resources/parent-community-volunteer-information). All parents interested in becoming volunteers must contact the principal to apply by completing a volunteer application that can be found on BoardDocs. We can also provide you with a paper application upon request. This process takes time, so I encourage you to get started by procuring your clearance as soon as possible. Our Districtβs website also provides instructions on how to obtain the three mandatory clearances under the Human Resources department.
