With delicious options like butter chicken, fish with creamy mash, and chicken pasta, students are enjoying nutritious, balanced meals instead of relying on instant noodles and other low-nutrient options. Combined Campuses Amazing Race - HEART Values

On Monday 5 March, Maungarei and Maungawhau campuses will come together for an unforgettable "Amazing Race" event! Students will participate in teams, racing against the clock to complete a series of challenges that will test their problem-solving skills, teamwork, and knowledge of the local area. In the process they will learn about our HEART school values. We want to thank Teams from Oranga Tamariki, TYLA, Turuki Healthcare and our awesome Attendance Advisors team for helping us out on the day.

Sitting down with Salome

We sat down with Salome Ma'u, our Maungarei Campus Leader, for a fun and insightful interview. Here’s what she had to say:
  • If you could swap jobs with any ACES teacher for a day, who’d it be and why? It would be Karyl, to see how she carries the vision of ACES
  • If ACES had a mascot, what would it be – and would it beat a kiwi in a race? The mascot would be a Ninja Turtle because all of us possess different powers - it would totally beat a kiwi!
  • What song gets you dancing when no one’s watching? That would be Aaliyah "If at first you don't succeed, dust yourself off and Try Again".
  • If you could teleport anywhere right now, where would you go – and would you take us with you? Anywhere tropical for the adventures - surf and beach! All day I would go with my tutor teams!
  • Which of the 5 ACES Values resonates with you most in your day to day work with Rangatahi?
    • I chose Kanohi Kitea – Relationships from the five HEART values because I believe relationships are key to growth in any context. Strong relationships create opportunities for mutual support, whether you are in my inner circle, close friends, or acquaintances. I value each connection and recognize how important it is to be seen and heard, regardless of the level of relationship.
    • As a leader, I make sure I know where my students are at, connecting with them through conversations, meals, or coffee. I also prioritise supporting my team by encouraging them to take care of themselves before diving into work. A well-supported team can function more effectively, leading to success in our shared space.
