Message from Nicole Pease, Principal Message from Nicole Pease, Principal

Good afternoon, what a beautiful week! It has been so lovely to spend a little extra time outside soaking up the warm sunshine. Jamie from the Harris Center spent time with Grades 1-4, teaching lots about acorns and birds. This experience is so amazing and students really enjoy the opportunity to learn and explore in nature. We have started planning for our Veterans Day Assembly, and with this comes the second annual coin drive, more information will come home next week.

Reminder that we collect plastic bags-we have recycled almost 6000lbs of plastic since 2021! We can recycle pellet bags and the wrap when they are delivered, so bring those in! I hope you have a restful weekend, Nicole

Big things are happening here in kindergarten!

Kindergartens are incredible at listening to segmented words and blending the sounds together to make whole words. Students learned the letters m, a, t, and d and are already using these letters to read words! They are also practicing writing numbers and connecting each number to its quantity.

We had so much fun preparing for our Harvest Feast and Open House! Our kindergarten job was to decorate, and we worked hard creating mummy lanterns, paper chains, and haunted houses to decorate the tables.

Kindergarteners finished writing Veteran Appreciation letters. We are excited to mail these letters to local veterans and invite them to join us for our Veterans Day Assembly. It has been a wonderful opportunity to practice showing gratitude and appreciation for the people who have served our country.

We had a wonderful week learning about oak trees with Jaime Hutchison! We collected acorns and examined their bite marks to determine which animals had been nibbling on them. The highlight, though, was learning about the acorn weevil! Students discovered how these tiny insects burrow into acorns and lay their eggs inside. We searched for acorns with little “burrow holes,” cracked them open, and were delighted to find many acorn weevil larvae hiding inside! The excitement was contagious, and it was such a fun, hands-on learning experience!

We’re also continuing our journey through Ancient Greek Civilization! We recently learned the fascinating story behind the word marathon and its connection to the 26-mile race we know today. Next up, we’ll be meeting Alexander the Great! I’ve been pleasantly surprised by just how enthusiastic the students are about this unit. Several have even purchased books related to our studies and brought them in to share with their classmates. I absolutely love seeing their curiosity grow and watching them take such an interest in their learning!

In 3rd and 4th grade we are excited to be finishing up our second ELA unit! 3rd Grade is finishing up unit 2 entitled “Fur, Fins and Feathers: Animal Classification.” This unit blended reading, word skills and Science. To support this unit, the 3rd & 4th graders had the opportunity to have Ms. Jamie from the Harris center who led us in a bird study. We used bird field guides, observed features from taxidermied birds, performed hands on sorts to determine which bird species migrated and used binoculars for real world bird watching.

4th Grade is finishing up the “Knights and Castles: Europe’s Middle Ages” unit. This unit blends reading, word skills and Social Studies.

In math, the 3rd Grade continues to explore the concept of multiplication with arrays and the commutative property. The focus for 4th grade is fractions, especially the size of fractional pieces or location of a fraction on a numberline.

In Social studies we are continuing with our according book that teaches about the History of Dublin. Will will soon start our interviews with Dublin businesses and community helpers.
