Easter Message from Fr Cyp
Greetings and peace be with you.
We warmly welcome all our parishioners, families, friends, visitors and people of other faith joining us for Easter in our parish this year. We thank you for making the time to celebrate this holiest occasion of our Christian faith with us; when Christ conquers sin and death. May it be your experience despite all that may be clouding your personal and or family situation.
Like a few years ago at the heart Covid-19 outbreak, we find ourselves in a rather unstable world to say the least. War in the Middle East, uncertainty around fuel supply and price, the restrictions some people have in travel especially overseas, escalating high cost of living, the loss of innocent lives and the real threat of a recession are all but fears the world faces now. In this time, the Church and indeed all we Christian people can’t help but stop and consider what God is asking of us today and now. Throughout lent and Holy Week, we have walked alongside Christ as he led us to his own crucifixion at ‘our hands’ - we who are sinful. In taking up the cross and being hung upon it, Christ has in effect reminded us and continues to remind us how deeply He is concerned with our human suffering and fears. He himself cries audibly in the gospels: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? However, he equally reminds that he has conquered all that human suffering caused by sin and death so that we may live. Ours response and responsibility are to trust in his love and mercy. That trust in our turn must be concrete in a manner that aids to conquer current societal and global challenges. So, for us Christians, the first call is a call to prayer. One would ask: how must we pray? I’ll say we must PUSH - Pray Until Something Happens; that is, until war is stopped and lasting peace is restored, until all have enough to eat and drink, until the sick and the lonely have access to relevant support, until we all can travel unrestricted for work and reunion with our loved ones among many other important goals. As you gather with your families, friends and colleagues for this Easter celebrations, pray for peace - you need it, I need it, we need it and the world so desperately needs it.
May I take this opportunity to thank all those who have assisted in various ways to prepare and celebrate Lent, Holy Week and Easter here in our parish. Your contribution, time, talent, expertise and generous availability to our parish are truly appreciated. Sincere thanks to many of our parishioners who have sent Fr Tri and I so many lovely Easter greetings, best wishes and generous gifts. I wish you and all your loved ones a safe and Holy Easter. Please continue to keep us in your daily prayers. As always, we entrust you and all your loved ones to the powerful intercessions of Our Lady Queen of Peace and to those of St. Joseph her Blessed Spouse and patron saint of the universal Church. Christ is risen, alleluia! alleluia!

Readings
Introduction Resurrection faith begins in darkness, in confusion, at an empty tomb – and slowly opens our eyes to new life.
First Reading Acts 10:34a. 37-43
God raised Jesus on the third day after his death on the cross.
Second Reading Colossians 3:1-4 or
1 Corinthians 5:6-8
Our life is hidden with Christ in God.
Gospel John 20:1-9
Mary, Peter and John saw the empty tomb and learned to believe in the resurrection.
Antiphon to the Psalm: This is the day the Lord
has made; let us rejoice and be glad.
Death & Anniversary
Please offer your prayers this week for John O’Connor, Warren Lucas, Bryan Lewis, Bernadette Burns, Maria Pfeifhofer, Margaret Anthony, Jack Brennan, Noelle Gormley, Andy Cetinich, David Franulovich, Peter & Anne Redmond, Miriam Ruth Villasenor, Chelsea D’Souza, John Griffin, all souls in purgatory, those doctors, nurses and carers who have died while helping victims of accidents, disease and warfare, our recently departed loved ones and those whose anniversaries occur around this time.
Stewardship Corner
Very early in the morning after the Sabbath, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb to anoint Jesus’ body with precious oils. The reward of this good conscientious steward was to be among the first to know that Jesus had been raised from the dead. Alleluia!

READINGS AT MASS: EASTER SUNDAY – YEAR A
First reading: Acts 10:34,37-43
'We have eaten and drunk with him after his resurrection'
Peter addressed Cornelius and his household: ‘You must have heard about the recent happenings in Judaea; about Jesus of Nazareth and how he began in Galilee, after John had been preaching baptism. God had anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and because God was with him, Jesus went about doing good and curing all who had fallen into the power of the devil. Now I, and those with me, can witness to everything he did throughout the countryside of Judaea and in Jerusalem itself: and also, to the fact that they killed him by hanging him on a tree, yet three days afterwards God raised him to life and allowed him to be seen, not by the whole people but only by certain witnesses God had chosen beforehand. Now we are those witnesses – we have eaten and drunk with him after his resurrection from the dead – and he has ordered us to proclaim this to his people and to tell them that God has appointed him to judge everyone, alive or dead. It is to him that all the prophets bear this witness: that all who believe in Jesus will have their sins forgiven through his name.’
Responsorial Psalm: Ps. 117(118):1-2,16-17,22-23
Response: This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad.
Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, for his love has no end. Let the sons of Israel say: ‘His love has no end.’ R.
The Lord’s right hand has triumphed; his right hand raised me up. I shall not die, I shall live and recount his deeds. R.
The stone which the builders rejected has become the corner stone. This is the work of the Lord, a marvel in our eyes. R.
Second reading: Colossians 3:1-4
Look for the things that are in heaven, where Christ is
Since you have been brought back to true life with Christ, you must look for the things that are in heaven, where Christ is, sitting at God’s right hand. Let your thoughts be on heavenly things, not on the things that are on the earth, because you have died, and now the life you have is hidden with Christ in God. But when Christ is revealed – and he is your life – you too will be revealed in all your glory with him.
The Sequence: Victimae Paschali Laudes
- Christians, to Paschal Victim offer Sacrifice and praise
- The tomb the Living did enclose; I saw Christ’s glory as he rose!
- The sheep are ransomed by the Lamb; and Christ, the undefiled, hath sinners to his Father Reconciled.
- The angels there attesting; shroud with grave-clothes resting.
- Death with life contended: combat strangely ended!
- Christ, my hope, has risen: he goes before you into Galilee.
- Life’s own Champion slain, yet lives to reign. Tell us, Mary: say what thou didst see upon the way
- That Christ is truly risen from the dead we know. Victorious king, thy mercy show!
Gospel Acclamation: 1 Corinthians 5:7-8
Alleluia, alleluia! Christ has become our paschal sacrifice; let us feast with joy in the Lord. Alleluia!
Gospel Reading: Matthew 28:1-10
He has risen from the dead and now he is going before you into Galilee
After the sabbath, and towards dawn on the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala and the other Mary went to visit the sepulchre. And all at once there was a violent earthquake, for the angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled away the stone and sat on it. His face was like lightning, his robe white as snow. The guards were so shaken, so frightened of him, that they were like dead men. But the angel spoke; and he said to the women, ‘There is no need for you to be afraid. I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said he would. Come and see the place where he lay, then go quickly and tell his disciples, “He has risen from the dead and now he is going before you to Galilee; it is there you will see him.” Now I have told you.’ Filled with awe and great joy the women came quickly away from the tomb and ran to tell the disciples. And there, coming to meet them, was Jesus. ‘Greetings’ he said. And the women came up to him and, falling down before him, clasped his feet. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers that they must leave for Galilee; they will see me there.’
EASTER PRAYER
Loving God, we thank you for the gift of our lives and for the life of every person, both near to us and far away. We thank you for the wonder of all your creation. With sincere gratitude in our hearts, may this Easter draw us deeper into the warmth and light of God’s eternal Love and Mercy. May we see the world more clearly, especially those who are often overlooked. May we come closer to your heart, which you showed through the cross and resurrection of Jesus Your only begotten Son. May we be full of hope for all future generations. We ask this, through Christ our Risen Lord. Amen.
POPE LEO XIV REFLECTIONS
Greetings, my brothers and sisters in Christ,
The Gospel of the resurrection of Jesus Christ begins with the journey of the women to the tomb at dawn on the day after the Sabbath. They go to the tomb to honour the body of the Lord, but they find it open and empty. A mighty angel says to them: “Do not be afraid!” (Mt 28:5) and orders them to go and tell the disciples: “He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee” (v. 7). The women quickly depart and on the way Jesus himself meets them and says: “Do not fear; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me” (v. 10). “Do not be afraid”, “do not fear”: these are words that encourage us to open our hearts to receive the message.
After the death of the Master, the disciples had scattered; their faith had been utterly shaken, everything seemed over, all their certainties had crumbled and their hopes had died. But now that message of the women, incredible as it was, came to them like a ray of light in the darkness. The news spread: Jesus is risen as he said. And then there was his command to go to Galilee; the women had heard it twice, first from the angel and then from Jesus himself: “Let them go to Galilee; there they will see me”. “Do not fear” and “go to Galilee”.
Galilee is the place where they were first called, where everything began! To return there, to return to the place where they were originally called. Jesus had walked along the shores of the lake as the fishermen were casting their nets. He had called them, and they left everything and followed him (cf. Mt 4:18-22).
To return to Galilee means to re-read everything on the basis of the cross and its victory, fearlessly: “do not be afraid”. To re-read everything – Jesus’ preaching, his miracles, the new community, the excitement and the defections, even the betrayal – to re-read everything starting from the end, which is a new beginning, from this supreme act of love.
For each of us, too, there is a “Galilee” at the origin of our journey with Jesus. “To go to Galilee” means something beautiful, it means rediscovering our baptism as a living fountainhead, drawing new energy from the sources of our faith and our Christian experience. To return to Galilee means above all to return to that blazing light with which God’s grace touched me at the start of the journey. From that flame I can light a fire for today and every day, and bring heat and light to my brothers and sisters. That flame ignites a humble joy, a joy which sorrow and distress cannot dismay, a good, gentle joy.
In the life of every Christian, after baptism there is also another “Galilee”, a more existential “Galilee”: the experience of a personal encounter with Jesus Christ who called me to follow him and to share in his mission. In this sense, returning to Galilee means treasuring in my heart the living memory of that call, when Jesus passed my way, gazed at me with mercy and asked me to follow him. To return there means reviving the memory of that moment when his eyes met mine, the moment when he made me realize that he loved me.
Today, tonight, each of us can ask: What is my Galilee? I need to remind myself, to go back and remember. Where is my Galilee? Do I remember it? Have I forgotten it? Seek and you will find it! There the Lord is waiting for you. Have I gone off on roads and paths which made me forget it? Lord, help me: tell me what my Galilee is; for you know that I want to return there to encounter you and to let myself be embraced by your mercy. Do not be afraid, do not fear, return to Galilee!
The Gospel is very clear: we need to go back there, to see Jesus risen, and to become witnesses of his resurrection. This is not to go back in time; it is not a kind of nostalgia. It is returning to our first love, in order to receive the fire which Jesus has kindled in the world and to bring that fire to all people, to the very ends of the earth. Go back to Galilee, without fear!
“Galilee of the Gentiles” (Mt 4:15; Is 8:23)! Horizon of the Risen Lord, horizon of the Church; intense desire of encounter… Let us be on our way!
