FALL at SPCL!
The Seward Park Campus Library Newsletter
Back into the swing of things
We hit the ground running this fall, and the library has seen more visitors than it did this time last year. Checkouts are way up, which is great! We love when people love our books! There are also a few new opportunities ahead, so keep reading and see what's bubbling!
New Hours!
We have new hours for the library! You are welcome to join us before school, during lunch (please eat your lunch upstairs, though), and afterschool. During class hours, be sure to sign in at one of the two computers or using the QR codes by the sign in. If you need more time afterschool, you can head right over to the Seward Park Library which has a special teen section and later hours. It's right across Seward Park at 192 East Broadway.
NYPL Library Card Sign Ups
We held our NYPL library card sign up, but don't fret if you missed it. There are still NYPL library card applications available at the circulation desk, which you can drop off yourself at the local Seward Park NYPL Branch, or which I can drop off for you (takes about two weeks).
Music Recording and Podcast Studio!
Welcome to Spark Studios!
With the help of New Design High School, The Hip Hop Re:Education Project, and a grant from The Astor Foundation, our music recording and podcast studio is up and ready to go! We are currently in the process of training student interns to use our state-of-the-art equipment so that you can come with your ideas for sound recording or podcasting!
Lunchtime Programming
Book Club
Available for both staff and students, book club is an awesome way to get together and talk. Sometimes you start with the book, and then start delving into all of the topics that it brings up, so swing by to choose your next book club book!
VR Headsets
Our student volunteers have set up our VR headsets so that you can come experiment with them during lunch! Bring your own phone or use one of our devices to delve into a 360-degree experience!
Learn how to use Sora!
There are over 1 million ebooks and audiobooks available on Sora! Read what you want when you want it! Please make sure you know your DOE login and password, or ask your school secretary how to reset your password!

Community Connections
The Moth
The Moth is an amazing storytelling organization that looks to empower people with the ability to tell their stories in order to build empathy and community! We'd love to host a residency here!
Are you:
- In 10-12th grade?
- Able to commit to 2 hrs a week afterschool for 8 weeks?
- Willing to share your story (don't worry, they'll teach you how)?
- Wanting to build a community of peers?
Then please reach out below and let us know! We'd love to have you. In the meantime, check out these amazing links and videos to see other high school students telling their stories.
Yu&Me Books
We've already hosted one successful event with Yu&Me Books with writers Hua Hsu and Chanel Miller, but more are coming! Click on the links below for more information!
