LEWIS ELEMENTARY NEWS
August 26th
Letter from our Principal, Anna Davis
Dear Lewis Families,
And just like that, the school year is off and running! Our hallways and classrooms are once again filled with the joyful energy of your children. Friends are reuniting, playground games are in full swing, and students are diving into their new academic journeys.
As we settle into our daily routines, our primary focus remains on creating a welcoming, and inspiring environment where every student can thrive. Over the next few weeks, our teachers will be establishing classroom expectations, and building strong, supportive classroom communities.
Here’s a few pictures that show that share some of the joy at Lewis today.

Yearly Verification
Please help us make sure we have the most up to date information for your student(s) and complete the yearly verification on ParentVUE.
If you speak another language at home other than English, please be sure to note that in your student's file so we can assess them for additional services. If they qualify for English Language Development (ELD) services, then they could receive additional reading and writing support from our specialists during the school day. Services are provided during our 1st-5th grade daily intervention block and/or directly within your child's English Language Arts block so they never miss core instruction with their class.
ELD is not a part of Special Education. To learn more about ELD in PPS, click here.
Library News
Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year in the Lewis Library!
Whether you are a new or returning family, I am so excited to welcome you in. My name is Lisa Tegethoff, and I am the Teacher-Librarian here at Lewis.
Here is a quick look at what we are doing this September, along with a few important library reminders.
What Students Are Learning This Month
In September, all classes will kick off with Book Care and Library Orientation:
- Kindergarteners will practice browsing book tubs, borrowing and returning books, and listening politely to read-alouds.
- 1st through 5th graders will review how to find "Just Right" books, navigate the fiction sections, tell fiction from nonfiction, discuss factual information, and how to disagree respectfully.
Crucial Care Reminders
Accidents happen, but a few simple habits help keep our collection safe for everyone:
- Separate water bottles and books: Please keep these completely separate inside backpacks. Water-damaged books usually have to be replaced.
- Do not fix damage at home: If a book gets ripped, chewed by a pet, or wet, please do not tape or repair it yourself. Return it to the library as-is so I can use specialized supplies to mend it.
How You Can Help
The library always appreciates volunteers to dust, straighten up, and shelve books. If you would like to help out, please email me!
Thank you for partnering with me in your student’s education. Feel free to reach out anytime with questions.
The Village Table
We are seeking the help of 2 family representatives for the 2026-27 Village Table. Family voice will continue to shape decisions during rightsizing and support honest conversations about school experiences and community needs.
If you are interested in this extremely important role or would like more information please reach out to Principal Anna Davis or the school office.
