Advisement and Homeroom Information 2025-2026

Dear Chaparral High School Parents,

As our first full week of the 2025-2026 school year comes to a close, we want to inform you about some changes that have been made to the Advisement and Homeroom periods.

Understanding Advisement & Homeroom

These periods will both take place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:15 to 9:20 AM.

  • Advisement (Tuesdays): This 65-minute block is dedicated to academic support. Students can use this time to make up missed assignments, quizzes, or tests, work on homework, and meet directly with teachers to receive extra help. It's also a time for students to build stronger relationships with their peers and staff. Additionally, our LINK Crew will meet with all 9th-grade students during the start of these Advisement periods.

  • Homeroom (Thursdays): This period is focused on activities that promote personal and academic growth. A wide variety of grade-level and school-wide events will be scheduled throughout the year. On days when an event is not scheduled, the time will be used in a similar manner to Advisement, allowing students to access teachers for help. The official Homeroom Event Calendar is available on the Advisement/Homeroom Canvas page.

Grading and Attendance

Grading: The grading for these periods is based on attendance.

  • 9th and 10th Grade:

    • Advisement: Graded as Pass/Fail (P/F). Seven or more absences of any kind (excused or unexcused) will result in a failing grade.

    • Homeroom: Graded as Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U). Seven or more absences of any kind (excused or unexcused) will result in an unsatisfactory grade.

  • 11th and 12th Grade:

    • Advisement: Graded as Pass/Fail (P/F). Four or more unexcused absences will result in a failing grade.

    • Homeroom: Graded as Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory (S/U). Four or more unexcused absences will result in an unsatisfactory grade.

Attendance and Travel: Your student's attendance and participation are critical to their success.

  • If your student will miss an Advisement or Homeroom class, please call the school by 3:00 PM on the day of the absence. Absences not accounted for within 48 hours will be unexcused.

  • Students must be in their assigned seat when the period begins.

  • There will be two attendance bells: one at the start of the period and a second with 5 minutes left to allow students to return to their assigned classroom. Attendance will be taken five minutes after each bell.

  • Students who travel to meet with a teacher must have their Wolverine Travel Card filled out with their destination and departure time, and signed by their assigned teacher before leaving.

  • Upon arrival, students must sign in on the Advisement/Homeroom clipboard in the classroom they are visiting.

  • To get the most out of this time, students should plan to be present in a classroom for a minimum of 20 minutes. This means a student should not plan on meeting with more than three teachers during a single period.

Thank you for your continued partnership in their education.
