- Visitors To Lunch ~ Visitors are now welcome to come eat with students. The cost of an adult lunch for the 2026-27 school year is $5.50. Visiting adults can pay by cash or check - or by depositing money into your child's lunch account using MySchoolBucks (ahead of time). Unfortunately, our cafeteria is not able to accept Apple Pay or credit/debit cards. As a reminder, district policy prohibits restaurant /fast food being brought into the cafeteria. Please be sure to contact your child’s teacher if you wish to join us for lunch.
Please remember, if your child's usual mode of transportation changes, or is an alternate for the day, you must send a note to your child's teacher.
“Personal electronic device” policies have been put in place. Students are not allowed to have their cellphones, smart watches, or any “personal electronic device” out, nor turned on at any given point during the hours of 7:15 to 2:45. Failure to follow this new policy will lead to consequences set in place.
Reading
- Book reading is correlated to vocabulary growth and academic achievement. Reading every night is very important to your child's success in 2nd grade. Your child should be reading for at least 15-20 minutes every night.
Please reach out through Seesaw or by email if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
- Please make sure students come to school dressed appropriate for the weather. Sometimes the room is cool and students may want a light sweater or jacket.
- Students are asked to wear sneakers for PE. Please check the Related Arts schedule for your child's teacher for the correct PE day.
- 2nd - 5th Grade ~ Parents can access grades during the quarter in Backpack. Please sign up. There is a link at the end of the newsletter.
For more information, please check out the September Parent Newsletter News from the Creek from Mrs. Davis
PTA Fundraiser ends September 30! Turn in all paper orders/payments by Oct. 1st.
Read to Score
We are so excited to partner with the Greenville Triumph Soccer Team for their Read to Score Challenge!
Each student has received a Read to Score bingo card filled with fun reading activities to complete at home. Between September 14th and October 2nd, all students who complete one BINGO on their card will earn a free ticket to the celebration match on Saturday, October 17th. All completed BINGO cards should be returned no later than October 2nd.
A Note About Homework
Homework comes home on Mondays and is for the week. Students are expected to read every night. Math is generally problems related to what we are learning. Spelling words are not sent home as they are integrated in our phonics lessons and various words using the skill we are working on will be on the skill check. Activities with words from the lessons will be sent home.
Please return homework on Friday. Thank you!

Attendance policy
This year, students will only be allowed 10 total absences. Greenville County states that students must be present 170 of 180 days. This can be combination of parent notes, or unexcused absences. A student will be considered TRUANT with 3 consecutive unexcused absences, or 5 total unexcused absences. Chronic absences and tardiness can affect the entire classroom, disrupting the flow of learning. Attending school REGULARLY and ON TIME creates a positive environment for everyone! If a student misses more than 10 days, all additional absences must be medical or principal approved to be classified as an excused absence. We are not able to accept text messages or class app messages. Attendance must be communicated through email to your child's teacher, email to Mrs. Guzman, or a physical note in your child's take-home folder.
Grading scale
Students do receive grades in 2nd grade and not a skills based checklist as in Kindergarten or 1st grade. This means your child will receive report cards with a letter grade based on the assessment of skills in each Unit and concepts within a Unit. Below is the standard grading scale used.
90-100 = A (Passing grade)
89-80 = B (Passing grade)
79-70 = C (Passing grade)
69-60 = D
Below 59 = F
Missing Assignments & NHI: A Quick Guide for Parents
What does NHI mean?
- NHI stands for "Not Handed In." This means your child has not turned in a required assignment.
- How to determine what is missing: You can log into parent backpack to see which assignments are marked NHI. The assignment name, due date, and any related details will be listed there.
- What happens if the assignment isn’t turned in: An NHI counts as a 0 in the gradebook until the work is submitted. Once your child completes and turns in the missing assignment, the grade will be updated.
- If the assignment is never turned in, the NHI will remain a 0, which may significantly impact your child’s overall grade.
- Submissions to clear an NHI must be turned in to the teacher within 2 weeks of the original assignment date.
Reassessment Policy:
After a minor assignment is given, students who have not mastered the material will be offered the opportunity to analyze and reflect on their learning, and may request a reassessment. Chandler Creek teachers will reteach concepts students haven’t mastered, then reassess relevant parts of the assignment to promote a mastery of learning concepts prior to a major assessment. Requests for reassessment must be submitted within one week of the minor grade being posted.
Backpack for Parents
A backpack for parents account provides parents, guardians, or contacts with a central place to sign in to do the following:
View their student's information including demographics, attendance, classes, grades, lunch balances, and test scores
Apply or register their student to Special Focus schools and programs (Fine Arts Center, Career Centers, etc.)
Receive alerts and notifications regarding their students
View their student's school and contact information
Manage parent and contact information for their students
Having a Parent Backpack account gives you access to your child’s grades and attendance, as well as information from teachers, your principal, and the district.
