Fremont MS Family Newsletter
Principal's Message
Good afternoon,
We are excited to share that we are expanding the footprint of the middle school cafeteria to ensure all students have a safe and efficient lunch experience. Our current middle school cafeteria space was designed in the 1950โs for a smaller student body.
In order to be ready for the start of school in August, we need to begin the renovation of our kitchen area this spring, starting on Monday, May 18.
Impact on the Remainder of the School Year
To keep the project moving while maintaining student safety, the following temporary changes will take effect on May 18:
Lunch will be served from the current teacherโs lounge (directly across from the kitchen area). This will be set up on Thursday, May 14, for lunch service.
Students will still have access to many of the food choices that they currently have, including a hot lunch option, cold sandwiches/wraps, and chips. There will be no changes to the purchase process.
A temporary wall will be built between the dining area and the current kitchen for safety as well as to minimize construction noise.
Outside, a temporary fence will be installed around the construction area so recess and PE classes can continue undisturbed.
The cafeteria will be closed during non-lunch hours. Students will be rerouted through nearby hallways and stairwells.
To properly prepare our students for these temporary changes, we will be making announcements starting next week.
Once completed, the new cafeteria will offer:
Increased seating capacity
Improved traffic flow by redesigning serving lines
A multi-use space for collaborative work outside of school hours
Improved accessibility
We thank our students, staff, and families for their flexibility as we expand the undersized space and modernize our food service efficiencies. We look forward to showing you the final outcome in August!
Thank you,
Dr. Emily Loerakker

Medication Reminder
Fremont School District has set up guidelines for the administration and transportation of medications at school. These guidelines have been established in order to ensure the safety and well being of all children.
Parents/Guardians are responsible for picking up any medication at the end of the school year. All medication, including inhalers and Epi-Pens, must be picked up by 4:00pm JUNE 12, 2026. Please make arrangements to pick up your childโs medication.
MEDICATION WILL NOT BE SENT HOME ON THE BUS WITH YOUR CHILD. ANY MEDICATIONS LEFT AFTER JUNE 12 WILL BE DISPOSED OF.
If your child will be attending any summer school programs, please let the nurse know so that those medications can be sent to the appropriate building. Summer school medications MUST be picked up on the last day of their summer school session.
As a reminder, new Medication Authorization Forms will need to be filled out by the childโs physician each school year. Forms can be found on the school website in the Health Services - Fremont School District 79 section.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter. If you have any questions, please contact the health office at 847-566-9384 or rhickok@fsd79.org.
Math and ELA Placements
Current 6th and 7th grade students will move to the next Math or ELA level, unless parents/guardians are otherwise contacted. Students that are accelerating from ELA 1 to ELA 2 or moving Math levels, may be asked to complete a bridging program this summer. More information will be shared in the coming weeks.

Calling Fremont Graduates in High School
The 8th grade teachers are looking for former Fremont Middle School students that are currently in high school to come and speak with the graduating class of 2026. We are asking you to speak to approximately 25-50 students about your experiences navigating high school, your tips and tricks for success, and answer questions the 8th graders may have.
This event will take place on Wednesday, June 3 from 12:00 - 12:30. Please arrive a few minutes early so that you have time to check in with the front office.
You may use THIS TEMPLATE to develop a presentation, if youโd like. This is an amazing opportunity to give back to the Fremont community, help the future Mustangs, Patriots, Rams, and Corsairs and reconnect with your former teachers! It is also a great chance to earn service hours. Please complete Fremont Alumni Speaker Interest Form if you are interested or reach out to Mr. LaCursia (dlacursia@fsd79.org) if you have any questions.
