What Is a Multi-Tiered System of Supports? What Exactly Does the Acronym “MTSS” Mean? ( continued)
While MTSS can often appear as a very term-heavy, it is important to note how each of these resources is used. Teachers could spend hours researching different supports and interventions, but this deters time away from the hundreds of other tasks already on their plate.
Interventions Tier 2: Whole-class data-driven differentiated core instruction + small group targeted instruction (in addition to core instruction). This can happen within the classroom or as small group pull-out.
An intervention is evidence-based instruction targeting a specific skill or learning gap. These are resources employed at Tier 2 and Tier 3 levels with systematic data collection and progress monitoring. Interventions are delivered during a defined period of time, with special considerations given for the level of need for each student.
Interventions can manifest in various ways, ranging from strategies and tools to comprehensive, individualized learning programs.
Accommodations Tier 3: Whole class data-driven differentiated core instruction + additional targeted instruction (often small group in addition to core instruction) + intensive support.
An accommodation is an amendment to teaching or testing that has effectively removed a barrier preventing a student from demonstrating content mastery. These resources allow a student to have equal access to learning regardless of a documented deficit.
Often, accommodations are used in coordination with an IEP or 504 plan, where the specific accommodation is clearly outlined for a classroom or testing setting. An example of an accommodation could be allowing a student with motor control difficulties to verbally state answers to a test as opposed to writing the answers down.
MTSS will support all students and help teachers by providing resources as a “support” or “intervention.” Our MTSS Team will be using the Branching Minds format to support students and teachers.
Branching Minds provides a resource library which includes a variety of interventions and learning supports to help teachers utilize high-quality, instructional materials that meet the needs of all of their students—without asking teachers to give up their Sunday evening.

May 2022
Whew! What a year it has been, but we made it! As school wraps up for this year I just have a few reminders for parents for the end of the year and a few things to take care of over the summer.
· 5th graders that will be entering 6th grade next school year need a Tdap vaccine prior to 6th grade entry. Some 5th graders may have already received this so check with your doctor.
· All students entering Kinder for the 2021-2022 school year need to be up to date and have final dose of DTap, MMR and Varicella prior to the start of the school year.
· For students that have medication at school please remember that an adult needs to pick up this medication before summer break. We cannot send the medication home with your student.
· Students that have medical conditions that will require medications at school next year will need to have a care plan and doctors order completed before the start of school. You can find these care plans (for asthma, allergies, diabetes, etc.) at https://sites.google.com/center.k12.co.us/schoolnursecorner/care-plans-doctors-orders?authuser=0
We are working on setting up school registration/ CHAMP for next school year. Look for more information to come on the school website, Facebook, and the school app.

Haskin Elementary Physical Education
Greetings
We are down to the final weeks of the school year. The year has had its challenges with all that has gone on in this ever changing world. The students have overcome and adapted with the times and challenges.
We are planning on doing baseball unit, Frisbee golf and finish with field days and staff vs 5th the last day of school. We finished up with our grant testing. This included 1st, 3rd & 5th testing on cognitive knowledge, psychomotor, horizontal jump & stationary jump. Affective star assessment was tested with this group. 4th & 5th also engaged in pacer test (running), back saver sit and reach, and fished up with push-ups. Classroom teachers did surveys and interviews.
Mr. Kade Harrop (student teacher), would like to thank you for sharing your students with us, and promote fitness for life through Physical Education experiences.
Please reach out to me if you ever have questions.
Best Regards,
Joe M. Garcia
