February 8, 2026
Dear BES Families,
There is a lot in this newsletter...check out the table of contents on the left to click and go to each important topic. Here's a quick list of what you'll find:
1. Olympics Spirit Week begins tomorrow!
2. Growth and Development information from Nurse Candice
3. Giving the Basics order forms and information
4. One School, One Story information
5. Roller Skating Information
6. Girls on the Run Information
7. PTO and school/district upcoming events!
Thursday we will be celebrating our Valentine's Day parties at 2pm. Please remember we do not accept deliveries for students. Families are welcome to attend our parties and can go to our classrooms at 1:50pm.
On Friday, we will not have school due to Parent Teacher Conferences.
Please encourage your children to bring home their water bottles to wash! We've seen some with possible penicillin growing in them lately! We are encouraging them to take home to wash as well!!
In the parking lots during drop-off or pick-up, please do not honk unless you are needing to alert someone to a possible emergency situation. Those of us on duty get distracted from making sure everyone is safe when we have honking and revving. We also have seen many on their phones in the curbside line. PLEASE put your phones down when advancing in the line and keep your eyes on the students on the sidewalk and the adults signaling. As a reminder, 5th graders are to be picked up in the east side lot and only 3rd/4th graders are to be picked up in the curbside line.
Have a great week,
Cindy Apple, Principal
Notes from Nurse Candice
Giving the Basics at BES
Giving the Basics and Louisburg School District have partnered together to help our students that have limited access to personal care and hygiene items meet their needs. "Giving the Basics provides the necessities of life, not covered by government assistance programs, that most people take for granted such as laundry soap, shampoo, deodorant, toilet paper and other personal care hygiene products." -GTB.
Items are available on a first come first serve basis and limited quantities are available from the distributor. These items are meant for student use. If the entire family needs help, the nearest food pantry is listed below.
Please return this form to your school nurse or social worker. The items will be placed discreetly in the student's locker as soon as possible. Please reach out to the nurse or social worker, if there is an emergency need for items.
You can also email or all us to let us know what items to send home. Forms will be available this week at conferences as well.
All information is kept confidential. If you have any questions or needs, we are here to help you!
Sincerely,
Candice Prothe, RN.

We are excited for our upcoming roller skating unit! Please consider signing up to help with lacing the skates so kids can get going quickly during their PE time! The slots are organized by the times classes visit PE. For the 1 hour slots, you will help 2 classes at the beginning and then they'll switch out with 2 more classes. Thank you for volunteering - many hands help get the kids up and rolling!
Girls On the Run is Back!
Dear families and caregivers,
It’s GOTR time! The countdown is on! Girls on the Run kicks off on March 9th, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome your child to an unforgettable season of growth, fun, and empowerment!
Like the past programs, Hello, Superstar! explores core topics relevant to 3rd- 5th grade participants such as:
- Navigating emotions
- Expressing empathy
- Standing up for oneself and others
Using the same innovative, evidence-based blend of group discussions, movement-based games, and social-emotional skill-building activities, Hello, Superstar! places additional emphasis on helping girls love and embrace their uniqueness. In just the past two years, both the CDC and U.S. Surgeon General reported depression and anxiety are at an all-time high for young people, especially girls. In response, we’ve designed new lessons to help participants manage big emotions, build relationships, and ensure all teammates feel like they belong. The program your family knows, loves and trusts is back -- enhanced and equipped to meet the exact needs of today's girls. Will your Superstar be joining us for a season truly unlike any other?

Broadmoor Featured in Kansas Native Plant Society Newsletter!
Early in the school year, we were visited and interviewed by the Kansas Native Plant Society to learn about how our prairie garden is growing and the various activities and events we have incorporated throughout the school years since planting our garden. We were just featured in their newsletter! It is very exciting each spring to see how our garden weathers the Kansas winter.
Be on the lookout for Garden Club opportunities this spring!
Support For Our Families
Hello Wildcat Family and Friends!
The USD 416 Social Worker/Counseling team created a Community Resource Guide to assist our families with a wide array of resources that families in need may find helpful. Resources include everything from free Prom Boutiques, utility assistance, mental health and so much more. If your family could use a little extra support, we hope you find our Community Resource Guide helpful. Please refer to the contact page on the Community Resource Guide website if you would like further assistance from your child's building Social Worker/Counselor.

Attendance and School Calendar
Please take note of our school calendars when planning your family's vacations.
Attendance is a focus at BES and we want your children at school! It can be very difficult for students to get caught up sometimes when they miss for extended periods of time. For example, when a student misses a week of school, that is up to 450 minutes of math instruction they are missing!
If your family does have a trip planned, we do not provide lessons or materials ahead of those trips. Teachers will work with you to schedule times when your student can be given that instruction and guided work time to ensure mastery of skills. This may have to happen before or after school, but we will also try to work during the school day as well.
GREAT school habits now help prepare students for future success!
