Good Day Family (Us),

August 18, 2023: Dr. Williams' Lead Learner Update

Getting Ready for School

As shared in Dr. Williams' video, these skills will help families understand what children have already learned and can expect to learn as they enter a new grade level. These are meant to be guides since every student learns at his or her own pace. Teachers will be ready to meet students where they are when they reach a new grade level.

A Look Inside Our Cosmetology Classroom

We're thrilled to showcase Dublin City Schools College and Career Academy's Cosmetology Pathway and how our students are redefining the world of style and self-care.

Comprised of skills that range from classic finger waves and box braids to intricate nail designs and facials, our students explain that Cosmetology 3 coursework is rooted in one of four key potential professions: Esthetician, Beautician, Barber or Nail Technician.

“The WAY is literally setting us up for future careers,” said Dublin High School-Georgia 11th Grader Julianna Young. Although she sees herself becoming a veterinarian, Julianna plans to pay for her graduate degree by becoming a licensed cosmetologist and taking on clients between classes. Her area of expertise is all things hair.

Classmate Kennedy Brown agrees, adding that it’s been essential to learn the basics of “hair coloring, rolling, braiding and working the flat iron like a pro. I’ve seen so much progress from Cosmetology 1, and I just keep getting better and better with every class.”

Learning in a state-of-the-art lab, our students are creating magic with every strand of hair, stroke of color or gentle exfoliation.

“I actually love this class because, when I grow up, I want to be a dermatologist,” said Bianca Edmond, a DHS 10th Grader. “I took it to begin learning more about the face and skin care techniques. Plus, Mrs. Martin works with us on what is and is not correct communication with our future clients.”

Whether you're passionate about hairstyling, nail art, or the art of relaxation, join us in celebrating our students who are mastering it all. And, stay tuned as we unveil their remarkable creations and hear more inspiring stories from our talented students each week!

Susie Dasher Elementary's STEAM Lab

We're thrilled to unveil the latest addition to our educational journey – Susie Dasher Elementary STEAM Lab!

Imagine a space where Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics come together in perfect harmony. Under the direction of Mrs. Windham, our young learners are immersed in hands-on experiments that foster innovation, critical thinking and a passion for learning.

Just this week, Mr. Hurst’s 2nd Graders read “Marshall Mellow,” the story of a young marshmallow who falls off the shelf. Then, students built their own catapults in STEAM Lab trying to get the good-hearted protagonist back to his family.
