Principal Weekly Update to Families
For the Week of September 8th - 12th
Brief Message From the Principal
Dear Jayhawk Elementary Families,
At Jayhawk Elementary, one of our main goals is to make sure every student has the support they need to grow and succeed. One way we do this is through interventions. Interventions are simply additional supports or strategies that teachers put in place to help students in the areas where they need a little extra practice, such as reading or math. These can look different for every child—sometimes it’s small group instruction, extra practice time, or using different tools to help learning “click.”
Right now, all of our K–6 students are completing the FastBridge Beginning-of-the-Year benchmark assessments. These assessments give us important information about each student’s current strengths and areas for growth. By the end of next week, all testing should be complete. Once we have the results, our teachers and staff will use this data to create intervention groups and make instructional decisions. This ensures that every child—whether they need extra practice, are right on track, or are ready to be challenged—gets the support that’s just right for them.
We look forward to partnering with you this year as we use these tools to provide the best learning opportunities for all of our students! For further information see this link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GmXDl7bJcFJLDfhWGp7SW4cUV_m9UA9a1EYycvvomso/edit?usp=sharing
Family Communication
If you haven’t already, please take a moment to sign up for our new Rooms communication tool. This platform allows families to stay in constant contact with their child’s classroom teacher and is now our primary method of communication across USD 346. Using Rooms ensures that you never miss important updates, reminders, or classroom news. If you need help accessing Rooms, please see the link provided or reach out to our office for assistance.

JES Kindness Award
We are also excited to continue the tradition we began last year—our monthly JES Kindness Award. Each month, one student will be recognized for going above and beyond to show kindness to others. This recognition is made possible thanks to partnerships with local organizations, and we are so grateful to work with our community to highlight our amazing students. We plan on selecting our first recipient on September 17th.
Help Us Recognize our Wonderful USD 346 Employees:
We are fortunate to have an amazing team of teachers, support staff, and employees here at USD 346 who go above and beyond for our students each day. We would love your help in recognizing their hard work and dedication! Please take a moment to nominate a staff member who has made a positive difference. A link to the nomination form will be provided below.
