Pick Up and Drop Off Safely
We have had some concerns regarding pick up and drop off for students. Please follow the quidelines below:
- Always pull ALL THE WAY forward in the pick up/drop off lines
- The center line is for drive through ONLY. Do not pick up or drop off students from the center line.
- The curb from the bike rack past the crosswalk should NOT be used for drop off or pick up
- Do not leave your car in the lanes during pick up or drop off. If you need to get out, park in the parking lot
- Follow directions from staff members directing traffic
- Stay off phones while driving in the school zone
- Watch for students walking or riding their bikes on neighboring streets
CHP and sheriff periodically come to school and issue citations for cars driving illegally and parking illegally. Please follow all posted signs and laws to avoid receiving a ticket. Student safety is priority one at KJ.
Title 1 Meeting
During Back to School Night, come to the MP room for a presentation related to our school. This important meeting provides information related to continuous improvement and helping students achieve. Your participation and signing into the meeting will help us reach our goals.

ELAC Meeting

School Site Council Elections
School Site Council
California law requires that each public school will convene a school site council which is charged with development and approval of the school's improvement plan.
Who is on a school site council? The law defines the role of each member of the school site council. At all levels the group shall include:
The number of non-school staff (parents, students and community members) must equal the number of school staff. A staff member of the school who is also a parent cannot serve as a non-school staff member. Of the staff members, the majority must be teachers. For example, if there are two non-teaching staff members and the principal on the site council, there must be at least four teachers on the council and 7 parents, students or community members.
Nominations and Elections
If you would like to be considered for KJMS School Site Council, please fill out the form below. If we have more than 3 nominations, elections will be held prior to the first School Site Council Meeting.
Consejo Escolar (School Site Council)
Volunteer Information
Beginning July 1, 2026, California Senate Bill 848 expands annual child safety requirements for school volunteers. Volunteers who are 18 years of age or older must complete additional child safety requirements before volunteering.
Returning volunteers who had a volunteer clearance status as of the 2025-26 school year will also need to complete these updated requirements and submit a Volunteer Verification Form found in the steps listed further below.
To become a volunteer for the 2026-27 school year, you will need to adhere to the Tuberculosis (TB) screening, annual Child Abuse Prevention Training, and fingerprinting requirements. Please see below for detailed information.
Step 1: Complete Volunteer Verification form below. You will need to upload your tuberculosis (TB) test results, a risk assessment signed by a medical professional or official documentation from your medical provider indicating you are tuberculosis free.
Step 2: If you indicate you already have fingerprints on file (including as a previous/current volunteer or employee in our district), your application will be reviewed by an analyst. If found on file, you will receive communication and a link to the annual online Child Abuse Prevention Training found here: San Juan Unified - Child Abuse Prevention Training
Step 3: If your fingerprints/background review are not on file, instructions on how to complete the process, along with the required form for LiveScan, will be sent via an email entitled "Authorized for Background Review." You will also receive the link to register for the annual online mandated Child Abuse Prevention Training.
Step 4: If a background review is needed, you will schedule a fingerprinting appointment at www.sanjuan.edu/fingerprint. The Volunteer Verification form must be completed first, as it is required to link your fingerprint results.
Volunteer fingerprinting is currently offered at no cost. Appointments are available between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. A valid photo ID is required. Evening walk-in clinics are available during the school year and can be found on the calendar further below.
Step 5: The Volunteer team will confirm completion of the annual Child Abuse Prevention Training. Once you begin the online training, you will have 30 days to complete it. Completion of this training is required before volunteer service can begin.
Step 6: Your application will be reviewed in it's entirety to ensure all requirements have been completed. Once completed, you and your primary school site will receive notification of your volunteer status.
Final Step: Volunteer! Congratulations and thank you for volunteering with us! Please connect with your school site for volunteer opportunities throughout the school year.
