MESSAGE FROM MS LINDA
Tēnā koutou katoa. Nau mai ki te whānau o te Oratia. Talofa lava. Malo e lelei. Zdravo. Ni hao. Namaste. Kamusta. Greetings Oratia whānau and families.
Our Tuakana team had a wonderful time at Camp Bentzon on Kawau Island last week. The weather stayed clear and mostly sunny for them so that they were able to really enjoy the water sports and activities organised by the camp leaders. There were over 40 parents who attended and provided supervision of activities, alongside the 6 Tuakana teachers and Kath Goldsmith our Deputy Principal. Thank you to the two medics who looked after the health and well being of our students over the two camps we took away. It was a real benefit to our teachers to have someone who could take care of the inevitable scrapes, cuts and bangs that happen during such times. Thank you too to all the parents who attended and worked hard alongside our staff. We could not have done it without you.
Camp is a wonderful experience that stays as a foundational memory for our students, and I very much appreciate the planning, time and effort that has been given by our teachers to make it happen. I had an American student teacher with me on my visit to camp last Thursday, and she was amazed and delighted by all she saw and experienced. Teachers in her country do not organise overnight experiences like our camps in their school time. All camps are done in the holidays by camp organisations. She thought our students were so lucky to get to have camp with their teachers and parents.
A reminder that school does not resume next week till Wednesday. Monday is King's Birthday weekend, and Tuesday is our staff Maths training day and school is closed for students on these days. The Ministry of Education has granted two Staff Only Days this year to support our professional learning time, and Tuesday, June 2nd is our first one.
Finally, SAVE THE DATE: Parent Curriculum and Reporting Information Evening. We will be holding an information sharing time in Week 10 - Wednesday June 24 at 7pm in the school hall. If you are interested to hear about the changes to the curriculum and what assessments are now being expected to be conducted with our students, and how reporting to parents will be changing in 2027 then please come along to hear from us.
Take care and stay safe.
Kia kaha, kia atawhai.
Ngā mihi nui, Ms Linda
