Spooky Special Edition - Halloween Update 2026
It's almost October, and that means it's time to start planning for our annual Halloween festivities!
We have some fun things in store! Read on for details!
Pumpkin Decorating Contest October 20-22
A pumpkin decorating contest will be held October 20-22. Please read on and click below for the contest entry form!
PUMPKIN CONTEST DROP-OFF OCTOBER 20:
Pumpkin contest entries (decorated pumpkins and contest entry form) may be dropped off at school on October 20 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the HORNING HALL DOORS. Students entering pumpkins in the contest will receive a participation certificate.
CONTEST DETAILS:
Pumpkins will be displayed and students will vote on October 21. Winners will be announced on October 22. The categories include: people's choice (to be voted on by students), spookiest, prettiest, cutest, best character(s), best carved, funniest, most creative, most team spirit, best painted, and gross out. Fr. Steve, Fr. Brian, Mrs. Woodman, Mrs. Alexander, and Mr. Conner will judge the other categories. There will be winners in grades K-3 and grades 4-8 for each category. Every entry will need a form when dropped off (see form below). Every pumpkin entry will receive at least an honorable mention ribbon, with trophies awarded for category winners.
PUMPKIN CONTEST PICK-UP OCTOBER 22 AT TRUNK OR TREAT:
In the past, some of the pumpkins were rotting and had to be discarded at the end of the week. As was the case in the past, the child / family will be contacted prior to discarding a pumpkin. Please talk with your child upon entering the contest about this possibility. We will do everything we can to preserve the pumpkins so that they will be able to be brought home at the end of the week. Otherwise, pumpkins will be displayed through the Horning Hall windows during Trunk or Treat on October 22 (see below) and may be picked up by families as they leave the event that evening. Students not attending Trunk or Treat can pick their pumpkins up to take home on October 23 at dismissal. An area will be set up near the Horning Hall doors so students can pick up their pumpkins as they go to the car line for dismissal. For your child's safety, if he or she will be bringing home a pumpkin, please plan for a car ride on October 23 or ask a friend to bring the pumpkin home to avoid pumpkins being carried onto buses.

Halloween Parade & Festivities October 29
DRESS DOWN DAY AND COSTUMES:
October 29 is a dress down day. Students should come to school on October 29 dressed in as much of their Halloween costumes as possible. Costume add-ons that can be easily put on may be brought to school in a bag. Please remember that students will be learning as usual for most of the day, so costumes need to accommodate sitting at desks and doing school work. Costume masks may not be worn in class.
For younger students especially, please make sure students are able to use the restroom with whatever they are wearing at school and are able to manage putting on remaining costume items - please practice at home!
PLEASE NOTE THAT COSTUMES WITH WHEELS OR WEAPONS, OR WITH REFERENCES TO DRUGS, ALCOHOL, POLITICAL ISSUES OR PERSONALITIES, OR ANYTHING ELSE OF AN OFFENSIVE OR NON-SCHOOL APPROPRIATE NATURE WILL NOT BE PERMITTED.
PARADE AT 1:45 PM:
We will have our school Halloween Parade on October 29 at 1:45 pm. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THERE IS NO PARKING ON OUR FIELD AREAS.
- IF WEATHER IS DRY:
Students will walk the outdoor parade route with buddies. Parents may come to the school to watch the parade. - IF WEATHER IS WET:
Students will walk the indoor parade route with buddies. Parents may come to Horning Hall to watch the parade. PLEASE BE SURE TO ENTER THROUGH THE MAIN ENTRANCE AND SIGN IN BEFORE PROCEEDING TO HORNING HALL!
TREATS AND ACTIVITIES:
Treats and activities for the day will be provided by class room parents. Students will participate in games in classrooms following the parade. Please do not send treats from home. BECAUSE OF THE TREATS AND ACTIVITIES FOR STUDENTS AFTER THE PARADE, PLEASE DO NOT PLAN TO SIGN YOUR CHILD OUT EARLY. THE START TIME FOR THE PARADE HAS BEEN SET AT 1:45 PM TO FACILITATE THE FLOW OF EVENTS AND MINIMIZE WAIT TIME FOR PARENTS BEFORE DISMISSAL.
Grade 3 All Saints Day - October 30
Third graders will celebrate All Saints Day on October 30. Third graders should wear their costumes to school, and bring dress down clothes and shoes in a bag. Third graders will process in at the school Mass on October 30 at 9:30 am. Immediately following Mass, third graders will remain in the church for the traditional "Guess the Saints" activity. Parents may attend both Mass and Guess the Saints. Following these events, third graders will change into dress down clothes for the remainder of the day.
