Principal's Priorities: Report Cards
Report Cards
Paper copies of report cards were sent home with students today. Please check your child's bookbag for a white envelope. We ask that you review the report card and then sign and return the envelope. You may keep the report card. Report Cards are also viewable online using your parent login for Infinite Campus. Should you have any questions or comments about your child's progress please reach out to their teacher.
Attendance Reporting:
Tardies calculated as Absences
Jefferson families, you may notice on your child’s report card or on the attendance section in Infinite Campus that their tardies will remain at 0 all year, even if they have been late on one or more occasions. If a student is tardy to school, the absence is coded as “unexcused” absence unless a medical note is provided for the reason for their tardiness. To follow state truancy and absence guidelines, all missed school time is calculated by hours, so this is the reason for the coding. For example, if a student arrives at 8:15am, their attendance will be coded AUX (absence unexcused). If you hover over that specific day, you’ll see it will say “checked in at 8:15am.” This would count 15 minutes of missed school time, or 1/4 of an hour. A full student day is six hours and thirty minutes. The accumulated minutes are then converted to equivalent days absent.
Please see the GJPS district guidance with additional helpful information regarding attendance. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mr. Williams, Assistant Principal, at 614-269-4894 or williamsc@gjps.org.
Veterans Day Program
On November 10, at 9:00 am we will celebrating Veterans Day with a special program. We invite any relative or friend of a Jefferson Elementary student who has served, or is currently serving our country, to join us on Friday, November 10th at 9:00am so we can honor them for their service. Veterans are invited to dress in uniform or join us in red, white and blue attire!
Counselor's Corner- Can you Spare 10 minutes?
Mrs. Haringa - School Counselor
A lot of the time we spend with our children is hectic with the demands of life. If you are looking to improve your relationship with your child, just 10 minutes a day of undistracted time can have a huge impact. This time needs to be free from criticism or correction. Let your child be in complete control of how you spend the 10 minutes. Be sure to set a timer if you have more than one child, each child gets the exact same amount of time. If your child shares disappointment when the timer goes off, ensure them they will get another 10 minutes of distraction free time tomorrow. Positive impacts from this dedicated time will be seen in self esteem, improved cooperation and problem solving.
GRIN provides food to be sent home on Fridays for families in need. If this is something you would be interested in, please fill out this form and send it back to me. You can also email me at haringah@gjps.org.
