Important Updates
National Principals Month
October is National Principals Month, and we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to our amazing Principal Mrs. Shaw! Her tireless dedication, passion, and commitment shape the educational experiences of our students and foster a positive school culture.
Every day, our Principal inspires teachers, staff, and students to strive for their best. Her experience and wise insights strengthen our achievements, and her welcome smile and sincere interest encourage a sense of belonging. Several classrooms at Davis showed their appreciation today, and there are more surprises planned for next week!
We are so grateful for Mrs. Shaw and all that she does. Her leadership and efforts make a profound difference. Happy Principal's Month!!
Halloween Parade & Party Information - Friday, October 31st
Parade
The parade will be held outside from 1:55 to 2:15 pm. Parents may line up around the Kindergarten playground off of Horne Street to watch the parade.
Classroom parties will run from 2:15 pm to 3:00 pm
Room Parents will be allowed to go to classrooms at 1:30 pm for party setup and to assist with costumes after they have checked in at the office
In the event of inclement weather, there will not be a parade
Costume & Party Guidelines
Students should bring costumes in a bag. Costumes must be appropriate for school. Costumes should not be violent or scary in nature. No blood, guts, or weapons. No masks. Make-up is discouraged because it is difficult to apply. No bare midriffs or scant clothing. Students may be asked to remove or put away any parts of costumes based on teacher judgment.
Room Parents who are assisting with the parties should not wear disguises that would make it difficult to recognize them as a safe person
Only Room Parents may attend the classroom parties and assist students.
Room Parent Guidelines
No more than 4 room parents per classroom may attend. (Others may assist with preparations or goody bags). Sign-up for Room Parents was completed through our PTO in September.
If you have never had your ID/drivers license scanned at the school, it is very helpful to have that done prior to the party. Stop by the office at your convenience.
Room Parents should make childcare arrangements for younger children; they may not attend the party.
Lead Parent: Work with the classroom teacher & other room parents on activities/games for the party
Lead Parent: Coordinate with the teacher & other room parents on any non-edible goody bags to be sent home. No food treats will be eaten during the party or sent home.
Veterans Day Assembly
Please fill out this form if you would like to honor a veteran at Davis' Veterans Day Celebration on Tuesday, November 11th at 2:00. We invite our veterans to come to Davis at 1:45 pm to enjoy a school assembly and a small reception afterwards with their families. We need your help! We would love to invite as many veterans as we can. Forms will be accepted until Wednesday, November 5th.
In addition, your child is bringing home a small Veteran Poster that you can complete if you have a family member or loved one who is a Veteran (or currently serving). You may attach a photo or have your child draw a picture of the Veteran, and you may make additional copies of the paper if you wish to honor more than one Veteran. When your child returns the paper to school, we will decorate our hallways with these heroes!
Assessments
In D303 we take a variety of assessments each year. If you would like to learn more about specific state testing and large-scale district assessments as well as the opt-out process for any of the assessments, please click the links below:
Trunk or Treat - Thanks PTO!!
What a fantastic Trunk or Treat event last Friday! Thank you to our incredible PTO for organizing such a memorable evening for our Davis community. The trunks were so creative, and our students had a blast playing games at each one! The raffle featuring teacher experiences and games was definitely a hit—what a fun idea!
It was absolutely wonderful seeing our Davis families and students in their creative costumes and watching our community come together for such a fun evening. Events like these remind us what makes Davis so special! Thank you, PTO, for all your hard work and dedication to making our school an amazing place to be!
Teachers Pick Their Poison!
Our teachers took a spooky little break and swung by the Pick Your Poison drink stand! Whether teachers were craving something sweet, spooky, or just a little mysterious, PTO had a potion with their name on it. 👻💀🍹Thank you PTO!
👫 Fabulous Friends!! 👬
🚸🚌School Bus Driver Appreciation🚸🚌
Our unsung heroes were rewarded with a small token of our appreciation this week! Students shared cards & gifts (thank you PTO!!) with our bus drivers at dismissal and thanked them for all they do. Our bus drivers wear many hats and keep our precious cargo safe & sound. We appreciate every driver, sub, aide, and all the folks behind the scenes at Transportation!!
5th Grade Read In!
This week, our 5th graders participated in a special Read-In event in the LRC last Wednesday!
During the Read-In, students got cozy with good books and enjoyed about an hour of uninterrupted independent reading time. This event was a celebration of all the hard work our 5th graders put into their first ELA unit of the year, and it was a wonderful opportunity to make reading fun and engaging.
We were also thrilled to have younger students visit the LRC to see our 5th graders modeling a love for reading. It was inspiring to watch our students demonstrate that reading is cool and to share the joy that books bring!
Dragon Days
Davis classrooms have been earning quite a few "Dragon Days" for being Respectful, Responsibly, & Safe. The students and teacher choose a reward theme, such as these classrooms who enjoyed a picnic lunch & pumpkin painting!
