The Maverick Message
September 26, 2026
Hello Murphy Families!
It's crazy to think that by the end of this week, it will be October! We are also nearing the end of our first grading period. Please make sure that you are checking Skyward with your student regularly and encouraging them to attend tutorials as needed so that they can end the grading period feeling confident.
On Tuesday evening this week, we have our Parent Conference Night. This is not an open attendance event. Your student's teachers sent out messaging this past week with how you can connect with them for this event should they or you have a concern you want to discuss. If you are unable to connect with a teacher during this event, please reach out to them directly for their availability. Our next formal opportunity for parent conferences will be the afternoon of November 3rd.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month and National Substance Use Prevention Month. We will be celebrating throughout the month of October with our Upstander Spirit Week, October 5-9, Unity Day on October 21, and Red Ribbon Week October 23-31. We will also have our Pink Out Pep Rally on October 6th.
Thank you for taking the time to read through our updates as we partner together to ensure that every student is: Safe to learn and grow, seen for their unique strengths and potential, and sent from Murphy Middle School equipped and empowered for their future!
It's a great time to be a Maverick!
Mrs. Alison Reams
Principal, Murphy Middle School

MMS Superstar of the Week
Please congratulate Emily Moore, our wonderful Orchestra director, on being this week's Star Teacher!
It is no easy feat to start over in a new program, and Emily has proved that she is creating her own path here, while still honoring the legacy of those who came before. She has guided her new students with love and direction to create her vision for the Murphy Orchestra program. Emily has worked hard to build relationships and create lasting memories with her new students. We are so lucky to have her!
Congratulations to Emily!!

Attendance and Gradebook in Skyward Family Access
Did you know that public school funding is directly tied to a school's Average Daily Attendance (ADA)? At Murphy, this snapshot is taken during 2nd period.
This year, our campus goal is an attendance rate of 96% or higher, and we need your help to achieve it!
How Families & Students Can Help:
Schedule appointments around 2nd period: Please try to avoid scheduling routine medical or dental visits during this time.
Set morning routines: Encourage students to set reliable alarms so they arrive at school on time and ready to learn.
Head straight to class: Students should proceed directly to their classrooms during passing periods to prevent tardies.
Murphy Mavericks are respectful, responsible, and resilient. Thank you for showing Maverick responsibility by arriving on time every day!
Need to submit an attendance note?
For those unavoidable absences, parents should submit an excuse note in Skyward Family Access.
- Log into Skyward Family Access.
- Choose the Attendance Tile.
- Click the + Add Absence Request on the right side of the screen.
Gradebook is updated weekly!
Parents and students are encouraged to monitor the Skyward Gradebook weekly to make sure that students are turning in work and attending tutorials when review or reteach is needed.
Our campus Tutorial Schedule can be viewed here and through the button below. Please note that there is a tab for each grade level, so make sure that you toggle to the appropriate tab.

Co-Curricular and Non-Curricular Clubs at Murphy
Students have until the end of the first 9 weeks to submit a request to start a non-curricular club at Murphy. Once a club is formed with a sponsor, students may recruit members. If your student is interested in participating in a non-curricular club, a parent or guardian must give formal consent for their participation.
The current list of approved clubs for the 26-27 School Year can be viewed here!
For Non-Curricular clubs:
A student needs to submit the Request to Organize and Meet Form: Non-Curricular Club Request
Notes to be aware of for Non-Curricular Club Requests:
- Non-Curricular Club request must be initiated by the student and not the sponsor using the link above.
Students are encouraged to fill out the Request to Meet Planning Worksheet to help them gather all the information for the official form in Laserfiche.
Sponsors will not receive an email to prompt them when there is a request for their approval. Ask your students to send the sponsor an email when they submit a club request.
Sponsors must download the Laserfiche Forms app in Webdesk and use their network login to access the form. They will complete the sponsor section and submit to continue the approval process.
Sponsors will be present to supervise, but will not instruct, facilitate, or guide any activities. The club's activities should be entirely student-led.
Non-Curricular club requests must be submitted every year.
Once a club is created and approved, parents may complete the parent consent form for their student to participate.
